Desmond Is Amazing alone did more damage to LGBT cause in Russia than the combined efforts of all Russian anti-LGBT lawmakers like Mizulina and Milonov. All they had to do was broadcast his perfomance on Channel One to the normies.

I am not kidding. Outright banning something usually makes Russian people sympathise with the victim/subject (because our government is SPECIAL and bans things like "Ho Ho Holocost" memes and we realize how SPECIAL that is), but people were genuinely appalled by what they saw that day. That's probably the most disgusting part of it.

It's their "crabs in a bucket" mentality - people who don't restrict themselves to the easiest life, or try to find the truth, are scorned for their confidence - while the self-proclaimed "good" will push lies to the absolute brink without hesitation, because it's the route of least resistance.
