It's obviously not surprising that Trump's talking about how clever Putin is recognizing the Donetsk republics. You knew he was going to go that way in the first place.

But, you know what, I've got to rant here - nobody has been covering themselves in glory with the whole Ukraine mess. We could have negotiated out of this a few weeks ago, but we convinced ourselves it was going to be just like Chamberlain at Munich, and so we decided Putin was going to invade Ukraine and did nothing to dissuade him - and no wonder it became a self-fulfilling prophecy. There was a chance Ukraine could have kept Donetsk until Monday, and now they've lost it and stand to lose more territory.

A hell of a lot of people in the government, both Democratic and Republican, think this is all a game. They know our army isn't going to intervene so they'll let Ukrainians get mowed down just so they can show Putin who's boss. I know people who'll be affected if a war breaks out - if you'll excuse the powerleveling. There's a European grocery near me, which imports a lot of stuff from Russia and Ukraine, and it'll probably suffer if there's a conflict. There are people I'm thinking of who are there on the other side of the world (one or two of whom are on this very forum) and I worry about them as well...

So you can see why I went into this long rant about why I'm not into the whole "bring back the Cold War" stuff that's going around. Even if Putin's going to start a war because he's angry the Risk board has Ukraine cover all of Russia or something. Some of the stuff that's been going around has been just disgusting. No empathy at all. No acknowledgement there are people who have something to lose and it's not just a dick-measuring contest.

Yeah sadly this entire situation is very sucky as I know a person in Russia who we share the unfortunate circumstance of getting the same thing from a person in the Ukraine and were probably not going to be able get the stuff we need(yes this sounds garbled but I don't know how else to say it without just straight up saying what it is). I do feel that she is worse off though because she is probably going to have a hard time of getting the same stuff from anywhere else in the world. I just hate to see how a lot of this is political and never takes into account the people living in these areas, let alone the people of Ukraine and Russia who will no doubt be effected by any form of war. The Russian there has been posting pictures of protests against war in Russia (large ones) compared to the independence rallies in Donetsk (very small) and it shows just how heavily this entire situation is being stirred by the Putin.

I like to laugh at TDS and TES sufferers alike. There's no reason not to read both threads for a based centrist like myself. The ongoing TDS pandemic created a lot of milk. But the TDS thread has a lot more posts which aren't milkable exclamations of Trump hate, but just (social) media people calmly saying they don't like Trump, mocking something he said or criticizing a policy of his. This stuff doesn't belong. Nor does general political spergery or frankly even much discussion deboonking TDS tards and explaining why Trump is actually good. The threads aren't for genuine political discussion but rather laughing at people whose rabid fandom for the Red or Blue team makes them cows.

You do see that sort of thing in this thread but not nearly as much. Maybe that's just because TES still has plenty of fuel from more recent events whereas the TDS pandemic peaked in 2016/17. Maybe it's because this site's audience leans right so there are simply a greater number of spergy users prepared to make unamusing contributions to TDS. My own bias surely plays a role in this perception too, but I think it's clear that in current year TES is a more potent source of milk.

Read both threads by all means but don't post in either if you have TDS or TES.

To contribute something on topic, I've noticed /pol/'s /ptg/ is still going strong. Most board users mock it but that doesn't perturb the regular crew which keeps it going 24/7. As ever it's mostly off-topic shit and ritualposting but it's a good if repetitive and oldhat fount of TES milk.

Also bears repeating that if TES is just stealing and reusing the meme of TDS, TDS was itself a copy of Obama derangement syndrome. This phenomenon wasn't as pervasive as the later copies but the term was firmly established long before TDS.

Doesn't surprise me. A friend has told me that when he was growing up in the US in the early 2000s he heard kids talking about how guns were going to be mandatory in their elementary School and things like that which came trickling down from their leftwing Democrat parents with BDS. I'm sure it's always been a phenomenon in US Politics but I'm not sure how old the label formula has been attested.
