At the 2 minute mark..have we discovered the origin story?
Wow I haven't seen this one before and I was just going to look at where you timestamped, but Jack's douchiness is so off the charts that I watched the whole thing.
Intro is the classic "pedophile chipmunk" theme which as we all know now plays in a constant loop in Jack's head ever since the stroke.
Jack spends the next couple of minutes showing us his hotel room, mind being blown by luxurious amenities such as a basic kitchenette and dining area, complete with mediocre furniture and carpeting. We get a good full-body shot of Jack in the bathroom, and anyone who thought he was comically fat ten years ago has no idea what would be coming over the next decade.
2:00 Jack makes an unfunny joke about coming out of the closet and continues to be amazed by such exotic hotel fixtures as beds and toilets.
2:30 "It's my first morning in Tennessee and I am dressed like an idiot" - even a blind hog gets a nut every once in a while! Jack's outfit here is truly garish and deserves a look. He's amazed by the bright sun and "country as far as the eye can see" while panning across a completely unremarkable parking lot.
3:05 Jack has an uncomfortable and awkward interaction with Jack Jr on camera. He centers the entire conversation on himself and his show while constantly demeaning Jr. over unremarkable details.
3:55 Jack informs us they have rented the same make and model of their car as they have at home, instead of taking the opportunity to try out a new car they might be interested in or have fun with some off-the-wall vehicle.
4:09 Jack is blown away by basic human courtesy between strangers. "They just waved at me... Back home, a fight would have broken out!" No Jack, strangers do not usually get into unprompted fights in OC, that is just your sick personality projecting your own rage and insecurity onto everyone else.
4:36 Jack dials the douche up to 11 to show us his "friend" Jeff's home. In usual asshole fashion, Jack only asks if he can film after he's already started capturing footage. Jeff's wife has explicitly asked to not be filmed but he pulls a dick move by getting her in the background early on and making fun of her as he films "around" the house.
5:30 OK so fucking strap yourself in for this one. The houses in this area don't have fenced backyards and Jack seems concerned about a dog in another yard. Jeff explains there's an underground wire and the dog has a collar that will shock it if he gets too close (an "underground fence"). "So it shocks him if he goes too far!" Jack gurgles triumphantly. "COME HERE BOY! Hahahaha" He spends a few more seconds taunting the dog and trying to lure it jokingly, i.e. he thinks deliberately harming a pet animal is 1. hilarious, and 2. a socially acceptable thing to not just joke about with others but also to film
and publish on his Youtube channel.
Jack films some unremarkable roads and awkwardly interjects himself into the car conversation a few times. They pull up to Dotson's, a small country restaurant, and Jack continues to film strangers without their permission.
7:22 Jack sees "Plowboy's Special" on the menu and asks what it is. Jeff reads the description of the item off the menu to him. Like a special needs child, Jack is amazed that Jeff's description matches what's on the menu and then reads it to himself out loud.
8:16 Jack is amazed by chess pie and interrogates a waitress on camera, who graciously tries to get more information on folklore obscurity for this beast of a man who's invaded her quiet restaurant. Jack bitches at Jeff for not making him the center of attention.
9:28 "It's just eggs and sugar! Wow!" Jack exclaims gleefully. The goofy smile he makes hides a throbbing undercurrent of gluttonous lust. "I forgot my diabetic pill" before mouth-fucking a large forkful of the pie.
Jack loves this sloppy plateful of diabetes so much that he dedicates the next few minutes of the video to examining the kitchen where it's made and getting a story on the origin of the name. Actually chess pie is really good, but I'm just amused by how much Jack likes it and at this point I'm imagining how much of the blood clots from his strokes came from this particular slice. I'm also impressed by the patience that the locals are showing Jack
(Christopher Hitchens wrote a great essay on the "painful politeness" of Americans).
Jack gets some shot of the breakfast and eats his biscuits + gravy in a really bizarre way. It all looks pretty good. The video ends abruptly with a "To Be Continued" and cut to credits.
Watching an old video like this is kind of a blast because Jack used to be much more open about being an asshole on camera. For the past couple of years his videos have been much more sanitized, which is probably due not only to the strokes but also to the relentless criticism which he's too thin-skinned to take seriously. And I've even caught myself a few times recently thinking, "Gosh maybe Jack is just a slow, boring boomer who might be dumb but he's not an exceptionally terrible person" and then I see him laughing about the idea of giving a dog electric shocks.
