I really don't know where Europe would be in the 1600s if it wasn't for the algebra that was created in the Islamic Golden Age through insane rituals of drinking extremely potent coffee and wringing your mind out to try and solve the mysteries God(Allah) has laid before us.
German runes have been found in Denmark dating over 2500 years old, but Mayan temples in central America date over 3000 years, in many cases. With the Minoan alphabet known as Linear A dating back over 3500 years ago, going on to influence the proto-Greek alphabet, Linear B.
It really has nothing to do with aesthetics or lofty, pie-in-the-sky notions of purity. Many many good things have arose out of broken and dissociated people coming together and putting the work in to make something different. Something worthwhile. The yeoman fantasy is called a fantasy because it's never existed for a vast majority of the general public. You have to get as rich as Maynard Keenan from Tool or Joe Rogan to achieve that American dream.
The best we can hope for is to live in a nice neighborhood, full of trust and love, where people look out for eachother and stand together for the greater good, regardless of petty differences.
