I'm pretty sure people born with intersex genitals will have them just get worse later in life if it's not corrected early. I imagine it's parts not meant to be together clashing and potentially causing infections or something.

Troons (and sadly, a few terfs, but mostly troons) have been using intersex issues as bait for the other side for forever. (btw, there is no such thing as "between the sexes", the term "intersex" is from a more primitive time in medicine, see: leeches and phrenology and similar things; all humans are either male or female, like most large mammals)
Historically, medicine has been pretty crude about intersex disorders, and for awhile, they attempted to surgically "correct" abnormal appearing genitals. Sometimes removing organs that didn't seem to fit. Clipping organs that were too large (including clitorises). Just very barbaric stuff.
This happened in many western countries up until... idk, the mid 70's? I think that's when things started to change? So there are adults still experiencing the consequences of these policies.
But with most babies nowadays, medicine has generally learned these were terrible ideas. Letting children mature as they can, and then getting them to sign off on later cosmetic procedures as they got older seems to be a better approach.
This isn't an 100% policy though, because some intersex disorders do have immediate health implications. Off the top of my head, some severe cases of hypospadias might merit surgery.
But all this aside, medicine mostly has a good handle on this. It's not perfect; intersex people can use better support medically/psychologically. And society could use some education that intersex people are still male or female, they merely have sex disorders. But mostly? Just trust the doctors on this. (non gender doctors, of course. like legit doctors)
Also, funny thing? Studies don't really show a higher incidence of gender dysphoria among intersex people. (like properly diagnosed ones, of course all the troons keep trotting out tumblr surveys asking people if they "identify" as "intersex", but like, legit medical numbers)
Of all the groups that I'd genuinely give a pass to having some kind of gender confusion, it'd be intersex people. And they don't display it.
Also, rule of thumb: nine times out of ten, when some danger haired doofus online claims to be intersex+trans and whatever else in the gender soup, they're making it up and lying about medical conditions that real people out there actually have. They might as well be appropriating breast cancer.
Less than a fraction of a percent.

I think most of the surgery done on (some) intersex kids these days concerns the removal of internal gonadal tissue because it’s somewhat prone to growing tumors. IIRC there is some controversy about whether the risk of tumors is high enough to necessitate the surgery in some cases, but we are definitely no longer in the “random surgery to make them resemble one sex or the other” era of history.
Troons have to co-opt the problems of other minority groups in order to leech sympathy from them though, so it’s not surprising they’re spreading misinformation to try to justify destroying the sex binary or whatever it is.

Universities are places where theory formulation is encouraged to further human knowledge. Other than the presence of ethics boards that may prevent some studies from ever happening, they serve as safe spaces for ideas that may be ludicrous when subject to the general populace. The surge of critical <insert noun here> theory is an unfortunate consequence.
