after playing sifu for a few hours the gameplay is fun, it feels kind of like a modern Godhand, the versatility of it is great if you pay attention, someone was beating my ass up against a table, I got them off me, noticed a bottle on the table, grabbed it and threw it at the person which stunned them and let me close the gap and finish them.

i see the game triggering his "I ALREADY DID THIS" autism really bad. Every skill you buy you don't keep. If you restart you lose your skills, you can buy skills permanently, but it takes 5x the cost. this game was very clearly meant to be played many many times over and over.

i'm not sure how the death system works, since the oldest I've gotten is 30 before restarting and I think 75 is the hard cap, so I don't really understand how that works yet, it also has 3 different types of dodges, which I can see him having problems with.

all in all, the games combat seems really cool, I need to get better at it, but i can see this game has some stuff that could make him shit himself potentially.

edit: oh i forgot to mention this. the faster you die in sequence the more the game punishes you it looks like. I haven't died like, 4 times in a row, but I've died 2 times in a row and it seems like every 2 or 3 times you die, you age faster. so if he dies like, 10 times on a boss, that might legit be a level reset right there.

I'm pretty sure once you "age" into 70 years or older then the last coin breaks and then next death is permanent.

And yes, the almost built in repetition of this game is going to trigger the fucking shit out of him.

I can’t believe people still get their hopes up about Phil raging at these “difficult” titles.

This is a deeply insecure man. He will move heaven and earth to cheese this game or to research it as much as humanly possible. He will still struggle through the beginning but you’re 🌈 or just don’t know Phil if you think he’s gonna rage quit a game like this.

like i said i don't fully understand the system or what permanent death means, and i did see an option that said "removes all deaths"

but deaths are different age I believe. either way, this should be interesting. i'm honestly going to go play more of it right now.

edit: @Pandalee’s Tits it's not about RQing, I don't care if Phil RQs or not, it's about getting slapped around.

you think I'd watch him play Outerwilds because I want to see him RQ? You think I did all that Divinity shit to see him RQ? I did it to see him be a fucking moron in a game that wouldn't let him get away with being a moron.

one last thing about Sifu I just membered, sometimes when you go to beat an enemy the enemy will knock you back and go "jk i actually know how to fight get some" and regain all their HP and become significantly more aggressive. the enemy this happens to is randomized, so you don't know who it is in a group, if anyone, is holding back.

Let's hope so there isn't a way to just cheese the game.
I'm not really far into the game (the boss at stage 2 keeps kicking my butt) but the only "cheese" I can think of is running away from the enemies so you can fight them one on one so they won't swarm you. Seeing as Dave has a history of taking as less risks as possible (GoW axe throwing spam), I can see him running around a lot.
The thing is though, you can't run away from bosses. You have to recognize their patterns and react on reflex to it.

Someone in this thread shared a review where it said the game is similar to fighting games and I can totally see that too. You really have to have good reflexes to get anywhere in this game.
There are two kinds of "permanent" upgrades you can unlock:
1. New moves you learn which transfer into every new run.
2. Stat upgrades which you can unlock by racking up score points (so you have to keep your multiplier up to get to the juicy stuff) and stat upgrades you only can unlock if you haven't died x-times during this run. These stat upgrades don't transfer into new runs and have to be upgraded every time you start a new run or go back to an already cleared stage.

So basically the game rewards you for playing well and punishes you for playing bad.
tl;dr: Dave is gonna suck hard and probably will ragequit it.

Shit man, I am going to have to try this game. I loved Absolver for the challenge, and martial arts, but the game had so much jank, that this game doesn't have, which is a very good thing.

What is this fascination with bitching about games being "unrealistic" like it's a bad thing? Why would he ever want his games to be "realistic"? This is even ignoring his complete disconnect from reality for the past 14 years, it's like he doesn't get basic escapism. Imagine you applied this to games he likes. "You can't throw fireballs in real life, it's unrealistic", "Waiting for your turn to attack in a life or death situation is unrealistic", "Playing bejewelled doesn't make you a better wrestler" or even "you can't spend money on a chance to make yourself stronger on bugged shard mechanics, just give me the fucking wrestler I want you bullshit game". It sounds like a toddler trying to find anything to complain about and jumping on the first big word that comes to mind. Only the toddler would have an excuse for saying something so retarded.
My favorite realism complaint is in Dark Souls 2 where he said that a fireball curving rather than going completely straight is "unrealistic". Because as we know in real life if I use my pyromancy it's physically impossible for the fireball that I throw at you to deviate from the straight path that I threw it in.
Let's hope so there isn't a way to just cheese the game.
Throwing bottles and kicking chairs and small tables seem to do it, but not every room has bottles and kicking chairs at people is a skill you have to unlock first. Not to mention, bosses can't really be cheesed.
i'm not sure how the death system works
Every time you die your death counter goes up by one and the death counter you had on death will age you by that amount. For example, since you start the game at age 20 the first time you die your death counter becomes 1, so you age to 21, the next time you die the death counter becomes 2 and the age 23, the next time you die the death counter becomes 3 and your age 26. You can lower the death counter by beating minibosses, so let's say in my scenario you beat a miniboss right after so it gets lowered to 2, in that case the next time you die the death counter becomes 3 again and the age becomes 29.

EDIT: got it wrong, fixed it now

The only realistic video game is one where you are born as a baby, then over the next 21 real-life years you play as your character as he grows up, then gets drafted into the army. Then you enter the arena, get shot after 5 seconds, and the game self-uninstalls from your computer.

he thinks sifu is going to be a "chill fun narrative based game"
Well without a doubt I think Phil will attempt to make it seem like an incredibly boring game despite it being the complete opposite, I expect a lot of time flicking through menus and his usual spiel of over explaining mechanics that he doesn't actually understand, stalling by exploring every single possible pathway as slow as possible and getting distracted by reading the stream chat on the fly for emergency help when something completely puzzles him.

Phil is reading here a lot more often then usual I think and it's likely after all our talk about how he's going to suck incredibly at this game and people won't be able to hand hold him too much, he doesn't want a new hit TIHYDP to take off and will be franticly searching for a easy mode guide to not make himself look like a complete idiot.

Won't stop him from screwing up all the time, so expect a little rage here and there. Maybe I could be overestimating Phil's preparation and this game seems like it will hit him like a ton of bricks knowing his usual pattern with "SoUlS lIkE" games.

like with elden ring, he'll get 1000 viewers on the first stream of people hoping to see him rage but he'll already have read a guide and and he'll stall as much as possible and have chat handhold him, it will be very boring

Yeah after he reads all his sources on the game(Twitter, Review sites, here) he can either:
a.) Drop it incredibly quick(boring from getting his ass kicked, low tips) or not start it at all
b.)Suck it up and try to prove any naysayers wrong and power through it by getting good(lol)
c.)Find some sort of exploit, cheat, or guide read his way through

okay, so i can confirm if you go over 70 deaths, you have to restart the entire level. so if he beats a boss at age 68 and starts the next level, he has to do either a no death run or redo the previous level and do better at it. which is going to make him shit.

also if anyone cares, press right on the d-pad to taunt, taunt changes with age.

For sure not Elden Ring, but Sifu and KOF will.

Now how long that lasts before he wage quits or gets "behind the scenes" tips, is something we can't predict.

Elden Ring is the only "tough" game that he will for sure roll through. That or he will just tip toe through the game, and wait at the fog gates for whale "strats."

And the deaths can rack up pretty fast too.
Like you can go through a level with 2-3 deaths but then if you choke on the boss you can go from 25 age to 60 real fast.

100% we can expect some salt in things that actually rely on him having to have some skill. Then again the wheel crew are probably gonna be scouring the net for strats that are broken. Now the question is will "influencers" get their hands on the game a bit early? If so we can get some salt from mr common gamer also lose some cause he will be watching them play the game and act like a clown with every little thing.

The only time there might be salt in Elden Ring, would be in the initial boss fights(before the fog wall appears).

Also I think there is a very high likelihood that the "influencers" will get early access to the game.

So he could either look up stuff the day of release or count on his whales to watch them and relay all the juicy tidbits to him.

I actually commented on a stream that the game looked like shit, but I've just finished watching a playthrough of it and I take it back. Sifu has a really good aesthetic/vibe, and the mechanics look really interesting, I feel like the devs actually put a lot of love into this game.

Phil is for sure going to get his shit kicked in, this is expected. If he can get through this playthrough without straight up insulting the devs at some point (🌈🌈🌈) then he'll have earned a little bit of my respect because this is going to be a really deep salt mine.

Just wait until he starts going off on a Western developer doing a Chinese-centric game in his attempt to appear smart get clicks.

I for one hope Phil's top ho owns us detractors again with a LARGE contribution.
The rage is secondary.
