It's a good thing twitter isn't where actual decisions get made then I guess? Do they think politicians are making decisions solely on retweets or something? What a stupid point to be trying to make. Also, yes trending occurs when lots of accounts use the same tag. Congrats on solving that puzzle.

Thats the most concerning aspect for me, that is reaching a point where vulnerable people who need actual mental help get put into the troon pipeline along with little kids who don't even understand what sex or gender even is before they are put on hormones It can only end badly and is a matter of time for the ripple effects from the last few years of troon wave.

If it weren't for the real political implications who even gives a shit about transvestites? I can respect self expression up to a point, i grew up surrounded by edgy people with weird fashion sense but self expression begins and ends in the self, outside validation should not be expected as a given, you should own that being a weirdo is your own prerogative and everyone else can take it or leave it as they choose too. In that sense transgenders have had all the rights they needed all along , at least in the western developed world, trans rights right now translate in more free gibs, more strongarming their way into places they don't belong, more impunity for crimes, more indoctrination for children etc, things sane people need to push back against.

There is such a thing as de facto gendered spaces, where the object of interest is mostly enjoyed by men, and there's been a general progressive bullshit injection. The sequence is familiar; a hobby is enjoyed by all, but mostly men. Some journo vilifies the fact that it's a "male space" and a bunch of attention whores join in, don't pay attention, do a shit job, and cry to journos when they get told they're doing a shit job. Now there's pressure to cater to people who don't care about the thing itself. You aren't allowed to like the thing, you have to like the different thing that's lost what made it interesting to you in a universally failed attempt to get makeup twitter to enjoy it. Women in this are the excuse busybodies use. Men and women both play video games, but when playing a competitive FPS and a narcissist joins, and she's a girl, there are suddenly a lot of articles from the usual suspects about how trash talk is bad because it "harms women". Troons are the same, suddenly the football game has to account for a fragile ego on the field. This isn't a woman issue, it's a "why are those people having fun without me" problem that only certain personality disorders have.

Yeah, I've been trying to find a way to articulate this idea, but this is getting to the core of it. Trans people need validating and belonging from other communities as a core premise of their "rights". If you think about a neutral rights framework, it would state non-discriminations in cases where there's not compelling societal interest (ie women's sports), and formal equality before the law. Troons are not asking for that. They aren't asking to remove the barrier to men entering women's sports, or desegregation of all sex segregated areas in society, they are specifically demanding that everyone else accept their self-definition of their identity, and treat them according to that.

The reason I bring it up is that in introductory philosophy classes, people freely debate this (or used to, maybe things have changed with the rise of transgenderism). And there, one person could say that this transhumanist would still be a human until they're 100% machine, another person might say they're considered a unique blend, say a "cyborg" as soon as they have any implants. Amusingly, I think hardly anyone would argue that they could be called a "machine" after making some half-assed attempt at replacing some of their parts and modifying their outward appearance.

Obviously the parallel isn't perfect, but it's funny to me that transhumanism is considered a fun and free discussion topic, and transgenderism really isn't. Maybe if people with prosthetic limbs collectively demanded to be called robots under threat of suicide, then we wouldn't be allowed to debate that either.

The troon menace is exactly philosophy 101 concepts applied to real life. It's as if some kid read the brain in a jar worksheet and somehow convinced the government for laws to be changed. These thought experiments are for 1st years to write essays on, and are mostly useless outside of an academic context. Many of the troon "imagine if you're born as XYZ.../if you feel XYZ..." posts that try to get normies on board reads like wannabe essay hooks that would get a C- in any intro philosophy class.

I kind of wonder if the classic "free will and crime" topic is still allowed to be freely debated given how the young wokies are super into decriminalization and abolish prisons now.
