I thought of another awful fashion trend from back then and that was jelly clothes back in the early 2000s. Usually made of PVC, but there was these jelly jackets and I remember my mom getting me one from Limited Too and it made an alright raincoat, but it wasn't really good for much else just due to the nature of material.

When I tried searching for good pictures of them, most of them were NSFW for some reason... I guess it is someone fetish? But I swear back then, they were a little more opaque and a lot of preteen and teenage girls wore them.

Piggybacking off of that, I abhor jelly shoes which are somehow now becoming "in vogue" on tiktok because of course it is. Why anyone would spend money on something that's not only ugly and cheap-looking as sin but also uncomfortable and flimsy as shit and is only acceptable if you're under 10 is beyond me.

Gonna have a boomer moment but I do not like the zoomer interpretation of "y2k fashion" I like SOME of the baggy pants, baby doll tees (when they FIT), mesh shirts over camis and the small sunglasses but the reverse seam thing is just god awful

A lot of the neo-y2k looks just remind me of juggalettes and clown hookers lol. But there is just something super super try hard about it. I defo get this idea that women are wearing these fits because they want to look like insta pics but in actual practice IRL it just looks so strange to me. (a lot of young 20's late teen's girls and women in my area are actually dressing like this so i see it IRL a lot.)

I used to have jelly sandals when i was a child in the 90's (maybe like 5 years old) and i lost one in the wet sand on the beach and washed out into the ocean lol. Also they get really sweaty and slippery and you slide around a lot in them.

Jelly shoes, so uncomfortable. I had to buy a pair in an emergency situation, and ended up going barefoot because the damn things were so painful.

The Selkie dresses, most of them look like the wardrobe for a porno shepardess movie. Debbie does the Flock.
Some of the longer ones are ok, but the short, poofy ones? No thanks.

There was the pain, but also the sublime pleasure of looking down and seeing glittery plastic around your toes. I still have kinda fond memories of jelly shoes and have looked into acquiring some in a grown-up size. I rationale this as they'll be good as summer garden shoes and it won't matter if I miss when watering my tomatoes.

Selkie - I think it's not a thin or fat thing as such (within reason) - it's a shape thing. If you have curves, anything babydoll or empire is not your friend, and if you have a bust, the high necks will look matronly and unflattering. You kind of need a child-like/doll physique (Kibbe type Gamine, if that's your thing) - and that seems fairly uncommon.

I ended up wearing a lot of men's clothing when I was expecting youngest cheeselet, most of the maternity clothing in stores was TOO juvenile for my tastes.
I didn't want ruffles, bows, or any other cutesy stuff draped over my belly, I didn't want to look like a knocked-up Little-Bo-Peep. I was 38 years old at the time.
At least maternity clothing has improved since then.

I swear I don’t understand why people are so obsessed with selkie dresses, they’re UNFLATTERING. They may look cute in very posed pictures but they look heinous in motion unless you’re literally five years old.

I said some of the dresses on the site looked like they could be passable as maternity dresses. There was a plain blue "cottage" dress with no additional ruffles on the site that I think could work as a maternity photoshoot dress in particular that stood out to me. The vast majority of the selkie dresses work on nobody, haha.

My favorite era of maternity clothing was the 50's. The maternity dress suits wereso freaking cute and classy at the same time. As someone who is currently shopping for maternity clothes herself, it's actually hard to find more sophisticated clothes for "going out." Loungewear is super easy to find, but there's a lot of maternity fashion these days that just kind of blurs together for me with not much standing out. Granted, that's better than looking like a cupcake and I'll work with it, but it's not really my personal style for "going out" clothes.
