Can't fault you for not being terminally online. Sam Hyde is pretty funny. He's notable for having mass shootings blamed on him, having a show on Adult Swim that got cancelled because of jews, and doing ironic cringe comedy. There's a lot of rumors about him, mostly involving underaged girls and trannies. Not sure that I believe any of it since the proofs have been sketchy at best.
The documentary is decent. Won't spoil it, but apparently iDubbbz was angy about something from years ago and wanted to make Sam look like a loser.
Sam made this crazy list of different ways they were going to gaslight Ian during the filming.

I think Sam's performance during their one-on-one interview is probably the main reason Idubbbz decided not to release the footage. Sam might not have specifically remembered that email exchange, but he obviously knew that Ian had ulterior motives for this documentary. He makes it immediately clear to Ian that he doesn't trust his questions, and shoots down one of them that seems like it's setting up a "gotcha" question for later, and judging by Ian's reaction he was probably right about that. Ian was too spineless to try to push back, and it looked like he was having a hard time recovering from being thrown off of his script.

Idubbbz would have been more than happy to take all of Sam's gaslighting attempts and spin them as completely genuine because they probably fit nicely into whatever message Ian wanted to make the documentary for in the first place. However, I think Sam disrupted Ian's script of questions too much and ultimately gave him nothing damning he could use in the interview, so he just scrapped the project and moved on. Also, the fact that Sam was recording his own footage alongside Ian's camera guy was probably a factor in his decision as well, since Sam had the means to defend himself against any smears via selective editing.

It seemed very much like a two way street to me. I think Sam definitely remembered the messages because of one discrepancy:
He pauses the video to say he told Ian to "squat 2pl8" (2pl8 means two plate or 225lbs)
Ian in the actual video says 200lbs, then Sam moments later when quoting him says 225lbs.
Clearly he remembered the exact message and it's intention, he wanted Ian to squat 2pl8 but he incorrectly wrote 200/Ian misremembered 225 as 200.
I think he was being disingenuous, as he was the entire time and as his whole personality is, for kicks

I don't really have any concrete way to prove this but I know for a fact a lot of the rumors about Sam are bullshit. I'm sure there's some truth to it, he's probably burned some bridges ie Charls and he seems to be maybe a sex addict or serial cheater. A lot of the repeating rumors come from Vaervaf/Gammon Favreau. We were friends for like 2 years on steam/Tumblr. He(?) used to do a lot of music for MDE, and then around 2013 he started going nuts. started accusing Sam (and eventually everyone in our friend group) of being a sex pest or a pedophile or something like that. I do have chat logs of him threatening to frame one of my friends as a pedo. Vaervaf then went on to become a tranny and simultaneously a terf, which is about as schizophrenic as it sounds. Last I checked up on him he detransitioned, and was arrested and thrown in a mental facility in KC after being high on delta 8, beating his live in tranny girlfriend, and waving a pistol around screaming about the Chinese.
Half the shit I see whenever I see these threads about Sam are things I know vaervaf made up whole cloth or embellished. Again, I don't have concrete proof besides some chat logs of him threatening to do it so someone else, so you can choose to believe me at my word or not. Just know that vaervaf is an absolute schizo freak, he played a huge role in orangys death, and he has had a hate tranny boner for Sam for almost a fucking decade now, and he has the free time and autistic rage to spam some fucking fake chat logs for 9 years.

Two things are obvious to me after this. Sam Hyde isn't bulletproof necessarily but he's smart, and he's been through enough to know when he's being setup for failure. Idubbbz, like the a lot of his ilk from the youtube golden era, fell to a disingenuous need to alter himself. This leads to Ian fundamentally misunderstanding the level of dedication and consistency Sam has to his persona.

I honestly think most people are completely out of the loop with the drama surrounding Hyde. At least for me, I know him as a guy who used to be really funny, then fell off after Adult Swim cancelled his show and MDE broke up. This latest video seems like a solid attempt to return to form, though admittedly ending up more funny in concept than in execution.

The chatlogs are believable because they all feature common themes that also tie in with known character traits of Sam Hyde. It's believable that Sam Hyde is a fetishist and sex fiend because even without the leaks, we know he is a compulsive sex addict. It's believable that he has sex with trashy teen girls because these girls are just the younger female versions of the zoomer minions that he surrounds himself with in real life. His talent for manipulation and aggressive personality was what helped him build his fame and notoriety, but these are volatile traits that are also common in sex abusers. The whole Sam Hyde story makes sense in context, given that there's been plenty of naturally talented entertainers who also have a dark side - Bill Cosby and Jimmy Savile, to name just two.

For the logs to all be fake, Vaervaf would have to have a talent for subtlety, making leaks that are plausible extensions of Sam's personality, without pushing it so far it stops being believable. Is subtlety something you would expect from a "tranny schizophrenic" who got "thrown in a mental facility after waving a pistol around screaming about the Chinese?" Answer that question yourself.
