You, alive today, are likely to have a much better general understanding of how the universe works than the greatest minds 300 years ago. While not an expert, you probably have some idea of what a black hole is, how microbes make you sick and what an atom consists of and how it behaves.

However, you knowledge is built on the framework of those who did the thinking before you. without the work of intellectual giants, before you, you wouldn't have that understanding.

Example: while it's fun to say boomers don't know how to use a modern computer, their generation built the first chip sets and punch card algorithm readers that allowed you to have that knowledge in the first place . And so, your kids will laugh at you for trying to full screen a holographic display, ignorant of the fact your generation built the light emitters in the first place
