Final Fantasy XIV - Kiwi Free Company

Finally got a character made only to be faced with a 6,000 person queue.

When they're talking about adding new servers, do they mean literal "new" servers where everyone is going to be starting fresh? Because if that's the case I might just wait until that happens, because the prospect of playing on a server with all new characters sounds very appealing.
They'll be opening new worlds with free transfers to them. They'll also probably be adding more server capacity to existing servers.

There's no real benefit to playing on a fresh server though other than easier access to housing (potentially). You'll still be queued with other worlds on the same data center, have cross-world party finder, and people will be able to visit. And most of a new world's population won't be new chars anyway but transfers from congested worlds. This isn't like XI where the servers are more or less segregated - pretty much all the worlds on a data center are linked and soon all the worlds on a region (NA, EU, or JP) will be linked.

EDIT: Also it doesn't matter if you start now or later. If you want to move to a new world when one opens up, your character will be fully transferred and you won't lose any progress.

Any time after midnight has been the best bet in my experience. After 1-2 am is usually the sweet spot where you either never hit a queue or the queue is in the lower end double-digits. 6 to 10 am is ill-advised since, outside of the percentage of the playerbase that has actual jobs they need to go during the week, it's usually when a fair number of folks are waking up to log back on, so the population starts going up again.
ive gotten luck in the 9-11 am timeslot, by 12 its fucked though, same for the 6pm-12am timeslots, by 2 and 3 is when it lets up for me (Crystal)

i know its too much to ask for too much intelligence from a karma/award gobbling faggot, but are they aware theres a global supply fuckery for literally anything tech related because some chinaman decided to eat some rodents

does mining equipment barring CPUs even get used in high duty/capacity servers that a global massive MMO would need?

Short answer no. Long answer unless we're talking about processors, then probably not. None of these people ever question if COVID restrictions are going too far or being the reason for graphics card or CPU shortages and that boggles my mind.

(lvl 89 MSQ) man, maybe its just me but the "horror" shit in the cutscene that introduces you to ultima thule feels more forced and retarded ngl, cant take the faggy tween bird who is colored like a gay emo palette swap OC too seriously, especially after DrakeNieR as a whole (and its raids in XIV) just made me kinda meh to it lmao

The level to which SE has shit the bed on this whole queue situation is really something to behold. A fun game is to bring it up in in-game chat and watch rabid fanboys flock to SE's defense explain how dey dindu nuffin dey just need sum money fo dem servers.

They're coasting on a lot of good will atm, so I suspect SEnix will escape this troubled launch without any scrapes to their reputation.

Are the SE defenders trash talking other games such as WoW, New World, COD Vanguard, and Battlefield 2042, as a way to defend SE in regards to the queue situation? I'd expect some people to go all out on the Blizzard trashtalking, as a coping method, even though that Blizzard deserves all of that.

Can be the case due to this faisco that they just give away free transfers to tell players go please go somewhere else.
They did this before with some servers, would't be surprised if they did it again

That would be aggressive, and that's not the modus operandi of this game's playerbase. This game's playerbase expresses its frustration at WoW players by telling you to go back to WoW the very moment you don't feel like putting up with a curebot, DPS that won't AoE, hardcasting red mages, single-pulling tanks, etc.

Frankly, with how Blizzard has been handling itself long, long, long before its most recent meltdown - I don't think you need to trashtalk that company. The jokes practically make themselves. The queue situation will also improve as people finish up the story, since... well, I'ma be honest: I think the dungeons are pretty boring. This fucking two-pulls-maximum is cancer, and there's not even a Gulg to shake it up.

It could have worked, if you had any reason to actually be wary of the thing. Imagine if the tone established in ol' Garlemald had been kept consistent throughout the whole story, and that sense of foreboding escalated rather than ping-ponging like an ADHD weeb at an anime convention. It would still look a little goofy, but the suspension of disbelief would hold.

I finished the MSQ yesterday and still have to collect my thoughts, so all this will be a bit scattershot. Overall, I think that it's pretty good and never descends into being a mess, which is impressive enough given how much it's trying to tie up. It's not Shadowbringers though, and I think the final boss is a good demonstration of why. In ShB you have the human element of Emet anchoring the story and the lore it's throwing at you, and when you reach the end that's what makes the fight meaningful. The EW final trial is really really cool and most games would kill to have something of that caliber, but it lacks the humanity that the end of 5.0 had. Some other spoilery thoughts:

  • The best scene is easily Urianger meeting with Moenbryda's parents. I don't even really have any comments on this other than if you'd have to have a heart of stone not to feel something at this.
  • Zenos' VA is unreal. Zenos isn't a deep character and yet this guy turns his major monologues into moments of real pathos. His first scene (where he describes life as a bog) is amazing, then somehow his VA manages to top it with his death monologue. He could read the phone book and it would be enthralling the whole time.
  • Speaking of Zenos it's great that the game knows he's just an autist and the Final Days are more important and when you see him in Garlemald once the Final Days have started you just tell him to fuck off and he does.
  • I liked Thavnair for what it's worth. The first trip would have gotten boring but it has the big Fandaniel moment to help keep it interesting. Also I love them blue elephants niggas like you wouldn't believe
  • Fandaniel is interesting how he's written backwards. We see the end of his story (as Amon) and that yes, he's actually a full on nihilist then later we see who Hermes was and why he ended up that way.
  • Meteion feels a little too convenient as what causes the Final Days. It's not offensively bad, but feels a little too easy from a storytelling perspective. Also I hate the horror loli cliche, fuck off.
  • Elpis is fanservicey, but in a good way. The Ancients are the most compelling part of the story IMO and I was sad to leave them when the zone was finished.
  • Summoning Emet and Hythlodeus before the final dungeon felt like bad fanservice and was the moment where I really started to feel the fanfic happening. It stopped before it got too out of hand but I was left with a definite feeling that it had somehow undermined the end of Emet's story in ShB.
  • Sure am glad that it turns out that when races reach their idea of perfection they lose the will to live and that Venat was right to sunder everyone! They definitely struggled to justify Hydaelyn's actions here.
  • They also were definitely struggling under the weight of playing their hand a little too well in ShB and making Hydaelyn look bad and the Ascians sympathetic.
  • Finally thank god that the role quests were optional this time, I main WHM and all I have to say is FUCK ALA MHIGO AND FUCK ALA MHIGGERS

The Tank role quest wasn't much better, IMO, but then again, I hate the fucking treehuggers from the get-go.

Do any of the Role quests this expac actually feel suitable, on that note? I mean, I kind of sort of get why Gridania needs a TANK'S help specifically if that one scene where they needed the backup of the Ala Mhiggers before diving into Coil was of any indication, since they basically admitted they don't have much of an actual offensive/defensive force and they're primarily healer-dominant in their "military" ranks but I really didn't care for being Kan-E's second bodyguard for a whole quest series. Maybe other people would happily jump at that opportunity, given that I'm of the understanding that a lot of people waifu her for whatever reason, but I sure as shit don't.

The Doman one wasn't bad, but that's only because you get to see Gosetsu again, as well as continuing to deal with the aftermath of the Garlean occupation of Doma. In no way your skills as a ranged DPS was ever actually needed though.

The only good Role-quest is the Magic DPS one it feels like they could have slotted it into the 3.X series it's that good of a heavensward send off.

I've only done the healing role quest (ie. Ala Mhigo), and I found myself asking, "Why the fuck do they need a healer for this?" more than a few times at various points.
Personally I wasn't a fan. I hope the other ones aren't that lackluster.

servers are burning atm.

Connection seems very choppy and some actions take long to be registered by the server.
Its to be expected, as covid and the WoW-refugees are trying to scramble in
There's an easy solution to all of this. I'm sure Square could take server hardware that Blizzard's not going to need anymore. :story:

End of Endwalker
I kinda hated Zenos and thought his rescue at the end was kinda of an asspull, but ill admit that the fucking final duel that eventually just devolves into a dynamis or whatever the fuck fueled fistfight was kinda rad, and the entire endbit just reminded me of Devilman Crybaby, with a dash of MGS4's stupidity

How they made that final duty one of my favorite moments of the expansion I have no idea.

It was nice they gave us the option to not be a goody two shoes and admit we are a crazy violent psychopath too.
