My family mostly works in medicine or medicine adjacent. A lot of pre-screening for a lot of shit is utterly pointless, removing a lot of stuff really is just to justify the pay check. Combined with people footing the bill for more people who just run off, a lot of my family is getting angry for the folks who are left holding the bag.
Healthcare alternatives are weird, Homebirth is actually a better option, one of my brothers was looking into it because a lot of Nurses are moonlighting as midwifes. It's affordable and usually an experienced midwife will tell you if you should go to hospital in case of breech or the mother needs a C-Section. My family knows of two sisters who were both pregnant during Covid. Older sister went to the hospital and had her second kid, got upset when she didn't see her baby for a almost a week. Her younger sister opted for a homebirth for her pregnancy, went pretty well from what I know. Blood on bedsheets, but kid was healthy and they didn't spend that much.

Taking things with a healthy dose of skepticism is good but it's unhealthy to go into the opposite direction entirely. The problem is that people have been intentionally misled into being fully polarized. Either you're all for something or entirely against it. I heard it's really bad in Belarus. Despite the supposedly "based" comments of their premier, there actually is a mandate and you can get fired from public work if you don't jab up. Hard to say if it's legitimately lower ranked officials going against his wishes or if it's just Soviet style theater, but a lot of those eastern bloc countries have rules that don't exist until they do.
