1. Canada has a terrible track record of enforcement. Right now it is effectively free and legal in most Canadian metro areas to steal property under $5k from businesses and to assault strangers as long as injuries are non-lethal and not placed on Youtube. I have no faith that this law will actually be enforced in any meaningful way by understaffed RCMP who can barely keep on top of street crime and can't keep perps in jail thanks to the justice system releasing everyone instantly.
2. The law as passed is vague and a competent lawyer could create a lot of doubt as to the exact reach of "conversion". It is supposed to allow therapists to properly explore gender dysphoria, which would reasonably include looking at confounding factors and co-morbidities (this is why the Conservatives allowed it, although they shouldn't have because it's a fucking stupid bill). "For greater certainty, this definition does not include a practice, treatment or service that relates to the exploration or development of an integrated personal identity — such as a practice, treatment or service that relates to a person’s gender transition — and that is not based on an assumption that a particular sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression is to be preferred over another." So it seems that quite a lot of intent would need to be proven to nail a conviction under this bill - how do you demonstrate that a competent therapist, trying to tease out dysphoria from depression, was acting maliciously with a definite preference? Remember, the Canadian Crown can barely keep on top of actual factual broken-windows crimes right now.

If Canada wants a slam dunk conviction under this law, they will need to find something like a Christian pray-the-gay-away camp- somewhere where any reasonable person could agree that the treatment is unethical and designed to convert. I think the actual effect of this bill will be similar to the abortion laws passed in Ireland and Poland: while the lawmakers argue that clinicians still have lots of choice, the actual professionals who are terrified for their licenses will become excessively risk-averse and won't touch clients whose allegations could tank their licenses. Irish and Polish doctors, despite being competent, let women die of their dead fetuses rather than abort them because the doctors were terrified of jail time. They knew the right thing to do, but felt that they could not legally do it. Once the women die, the government blames the doctors anyway. I think this will do the same to gender therapists: the consequences of one of these clients hitting them with a criminal accusation is terrible- potentially jail, a threat to their license, their ability to help anyone else removed for all time- and so the smart move is not to treat this population at all. Because unlike docs, who are legally obligated to help pregnant women presenting to hospital, therapists are not obligated to help trans people by law.

Tl;dr: this bill probably won't do anything but shut down some crazy Christians and force shrinks to avoid trannies

I think you're right that enforcement from police on their own initiative is unlikely, but I can see this being wielded by shitty parents in divorces or pursued by woke busybody school counselors, situations like that.

Also framing it as simply being a matter or conviction or no conviction misses the point somewhat. When it comes to laws like this, often being charged and the disruption and cost it causes is itself the punishment, and enough to serve as a warning to others, conviction or not. As long as normal people are afraid to not give trannies what they want, then the trannies have already won, even if no one actually went to jail.

This exact same shit is currently being pushed through in the UK too (consultation shortened from the usual 12 weeks to 6 with no explanation. Why would that be? ).

It’s couched in gay-first language, aka trying to ban “conversion therapy” because it’s a horrible thing to do to gay people. Naturally, the vast majority of normal and sane people agree with this. What they also added to the proposal (and what they’re trying to not talk about) is that it seeks to ban “conversion therapy” for transgender people too - defined as anything that even suggests the person should do anything other than medically transition immediately. No “watchful waiting” with kids, no suggesting to autistic or abused kids that their unhappiness with their body might be due to their autism or abuse rather than being transgender. Under this proposal, if you don’t support the tranny you’re breaking the law.

I mean, if you want troons to have no genuine mental health support, it’s ideal. If you wanna blame them entirely when they have massive second thoughts a few years later (or when they hit adulthood) and threaten suicide because ‘no-one told them’ about complications or alternatives, job done. If you want psychologists and medical practitioners to avoid the fuck out of any and all trans people in case they’re sued for the tiniest micro aggression, it’s an ideal setup. If you really hate troons so much that you’ll give them all the rope they need to hang themselves, then the bill is a great proposal.

That may be true, but the same was said of Bill C-16. No one would get arrested. Now, a troon gets awarded $30,000 for misgendering. Males are placed in female prisons and that Vancouver dad will now be held in contempt of court for trying to protect his daughter. It's those cases that actually make the docket and what earn national attention.

This bill also adds 'cisgender' to the law for the very first time. Most Canadians, again, will never know this was passed. Our criminal code is fucked and a new bill that may also be passed makes gender critical beliefs or anything making the trannies upset illegal - even if you posted here.

Our cops are a mix between UK and American cops: our cops have guns, but tend to be 'polite' before they stomp your head in for COVID violations. This bill will lead to exactly that. Since every single Senator and representative was for this, it will likely never be repealed.

Happened to come across this girl and felt the need to share.

Hockey10097 is a 17-year-old Canadian FTM on Reddit. If you go back more than a couple months in her comment history, most of it is about Minecraft, Pokemon Go, and Pewdiepie.
... but then when you look at her recent history, it's all about dieting and transitioning.

Here are some fun facts:

• She's been on testosterone for 1.5 (!) years
• She got a double mastectomy 9-10 months ago
• Her pediatric endocrinologist just recently put her on Lupron (wtf) while still being on T
• She wants to get a hysterectomy "asap" and is strongly considering getting a metoidioplasty (bottom surgery)

She also apparently has a lot of body hair from HRT as well as some mysterious internal organ pain. (Also probably from HRT, if I had to bet. Testosterone over a long period of time causes serious vaginal & uterine atrophy, among other problems.)

All in all, she's totally screwed - even if she suddenly has an epiphany today and realizes that all this trans stuff is bullshit, she's already irrevocably altered & damaged her body. And in less than 2 years!

growing up in a traditional/religious hispanic household, dad and other male relatives would constantly talk about how a woman's purpose was to get married and carry a child in order to live a fulfilled life. I ended up hating my body. I ended up growing up hating being a woman because of the way that men were already sexualising my body in relation to procreation. When adult men who you trust in continuously bring attention to your body and how your body isn't yours, and it's just a tool to fulfill a male desire to plant sperm, that shit fucks you up.

I feel that this chick just grew up on the internet, being bombarded by creepos, talking about and sexualizing breasts all the time, that she decided she didn't want to be the target of pervo sentiments once her body developed. Like, wanting to escape the male gaze is probably one of the biggest reasons chicks troon out.

Which leads me to the bill that passed that forces parents to transition their children - I feel I've probably outed myself as a Canadian at this point. I have never met a transgender person. I have met a handful of crossdressers, none of whom claimed to be transgender. I saw two visibly in transition MTF once in Toronto in a tattoo studio. I have had an older relative who did transition in the 90s and joined the 41% mid-00s.

I've attended Canadian schools. They now force you to announce your pronouns at the start of the semester in every class, especially in the social sciences. In the 20+ classes I've taken, no one has ever identified outside of their assigned at birth pronoun.

Canada does love to grand stand though. It will be some next level BPD asshole who legitimately uses that to punish their own parents and be disowned by their entire family so I mean, if that's the route they take, I guess that's the karma for giving birth to an exceptional individual.

Maybe not medically necessary but you could definitely tell Bob had nodules or nodes of some kind based on how raspy and hoarse his voice is at all times. It's not uncommon with stage performers that have bad vocal habits to develop these and it does make it difficult to talk and project to an audience for extended periods.

That's the sad part of all this. Underneath the visage of a 6'2" man in a gaudy dress with a Jay Leno chin is someone deeply mentally ill. Does this mental illness excuse all the bad actions troons have taken: no. Mental illness or not, you're still responsible for your own actions. It's just instead of these types getting help with why they feel like the opposite sex and seeking help to be content with the body they were born with, they are being encouraged to exacerbate their illnesses. Self-destructive behavior, like going on hormones and getting reassignment surgery, is not only encouraged but celebrated. And when their bodies become failed science experiments, all they can do is cope post on Twitter while the agony and regret of their decisions keeps building up. Society as a whole has failed these people by babying them and playing along with their delusions. I don't envy the people who in 5-10 years time will realize what's happened to them and how the people around them failed them at every turn. It's going to hit them like a runaway train.

This is exactly what I meant. Also its funny no matter how bad a guy is, can be a rapist, murderer, child rapist murderer, you still have to "respect their pronouns" and sometimes they will hide behind being trans as a "minority" for getting more lenient sentences and an excuse for their behaviours. So they are being babied in more ways than one, and tbh I dont think most people would care if they wern't pushing it on other people. I have sympathy for detranstioners who try to warn others about the reality of this but get death threats from troons (most detrans are female, most violent troons are male, quelle surprise).
