So there is basically zero concrete and conclusive long term or even short term evidence about how these new mutations will behave in different populations and already there are people telling others its a scam and not to worry at all. So much for critical and evidence based thinking.

COVID morphed from 'we don't know but it is bad' to releasing stats that show 99% survival rate for anyone not 70+, fat, with diabetes, and other health problems.

This has become a political football and that is super-obvious. It's either you are on one team or the other. Before the election, Biden and Kamala were questioning the vaccine and even suggested won't take it. Now, it's you better fucking take it or you will lose your job and right to participate in society. They are not even keeping track of natural immunity stats regarding infection -- why the fuck not? I don't think this is some nefarious 'kill the plebs' conspiracy but it sure in fuck is overblown. The government is also not known for admitting they are wrong -- fuck they took like 40 years to admit Agent Orange might be connected to cancer. Imagine if these vaccines, which do not have long-term studies, do have serious side effects? Americans love to sue and the government just convinced 300+ million to take a virus developed in record time...

I think it's because there was just so much scientific effort thrown into it. And so much money thrown at it, globally. I live in a university city. Every university in the city and by extension the state was thrown a bunch of money by both state and federal governments to find either a cure, a means of easily testing for covid, or new ways to protect essential workers against it.

And we're talking, millions and millions of dollars. And that's just one city. If you look at the whole world, there's billions, maybe even trillions that were spent by governments to universities, corporations and other organisations to find the means of stopping this thing. Maybe I'm too naive, but I think with all the academic manpower thrown into this thing, it's too big to fail.

I don't know how to really address this but because we live in a society where we send people who are sick away to be treated, we do not see the way the people we send die so to us its not a big deal because out of sight and out of mind. There is a reason health care workers internationally are unilaterally in support of mitigation because they seen different types of people succumb to this disease. It is an ever evolving situation so anyone telling you its 100% safe is full of shit because even the experts can't make any sweeping statements. Why listen to people who plan for the best and ignore the worst. It is a biased and irrational way to perceive the situation. I would imagine people who want to push the fact that its not a big deal and will never be a problem have very strong stock in their lives that motivate them to take a risk on this public heath issue knowing well that it can endanger others.
