This is like an orgasim and then when you think your gonna surviving busting a nut; there's the new Sly Copper movie and then you bust the other nut
 
REALLY not sure how to feel about this.

I mean, it's great they got the most of the main cast from the games. And frankly the humor shown in the trailer is definitely something you'd see in the games. But I don't know. I have a feeling this is gonna flop hard in some way.

But hey, it has Dr. Nefarious at least. Seems like they made him organic here in order to set up for a sequel in which he becomes robotic and serves as the main villain.
 
I remember seeing the first teaser for this a couple years ago. While the track record for movie adaptation for games is dubious at best, I do want to see how this movie turns out, along with that new Sly Cooper film too. I'll likely check out reviews after it comes out before seeing it.

That said, I do like how they kept a lot of the humor from the games. Plus they got Dr. Nefarious in it!

Eh, to be honest, if it helps to generate more interest in the series as a whole, I'm for it. Insomniac hasn't done that much with the franchise since A Crack in Time--we've gotten a co-op game, and a budget title. If the movie and remake of 1 manages to get enough interest to warrant more games down the line, I'll be pretty happy for it. Especially since it seems like it could capture a large amount of the general kids animated movie audience.

I hope we get some references to Qwark bullying Nefarious in high school at least.

I'd rather Insomniac decide to make a new franchise as opposed to continue R&C.

R&C to me has stagnated over the last decade. It legitimately feels like the developers started to run out of ideas for what to do with every game. At some point it started to feel like "oh... another Ratchet and Clank...". And I didn't even remember anything from any of the newer ones.

Bare in mind I used to play through R&C2 and 3 endlessly, absolutely loved both titles. But they felt like legitimate evolution of each other. A big step up in quality each time.

I'd much rather Insomniac try to make another platformer series than continue R&C. It just feels like beating a dead horse at this point.
 
I've been looking forward to this movie, every since it got announced. While the newer games might not be as good as the older ones. I can safely say that at best the movie will be good, and at worst, mediocre.

Can't say much for the tie in game though, other than it's based off the movie, and both are coming out around the same time.

I agree. If I wanted to play R&C again, I'd go through the HD collection again.

Ratchet and Clank had their time. It's time for some fresh talent.
 
I was big into Spyro as a kid (except for so many years I only had Enter the Dragonfly which is universally regarded as shit until I got a ps1 and played the shit out of Year of the Dragon) so I missed the Ratchet and Clank bus. I don't know much about the series but I'm just guessing it's some kind of action-comedy game with shooting things.
Out of nostalgia I'd rather see a Spyro movie but considering Spyro has been rebooted like twice and his current incarnation is the most profitable I don't think it will be happening.
Kind of a random game to get a movie though, when's the last time Ratchet and Clank were relevant (that's an honest question because I really don't know but I'm guessing late ps2)

Relevant is debatable but the most recent game in the series "Into the Nexus" was in 2013.

I also read they're putting out a remake for R&C1 on the PS4.

Would have been in the last decade. I seem to recall the PSP game/s being popular around the time it was new, but I was never into R&C.

The movie might exist exactly because it was thought R&C has run its course as a game franchise but that the IP is pretty marketable, especially as an animation - I feel some DreamWorks vibes in that trailer. The alternatives were to make another game (again, it's run its course) or let the franchise die quietly.

They're obviously hoping to get a cut of the big budget 3D animation pie. Shit like Frozen had to have clued in even the dumbest exec to the honeypot that's been blowing up since Toy Story. I think it'll flop, though.
 
I feel that this might have a better chance of success than of a videogame with a human protagonist at least. Depending on the writing.

If nothing else it'll need to succeed in appealing to non-R&C fans as well. It might be possible, animation appeals to a lot of groups of people.
