You are flat-out wrong. The job is to get them acquitted, but they are subordinate to the client. If the client wants to do something stupid like "take the stand" the lawyer has to assist them in this even if its bad for the case.

This in fact fucks over a lot of defendants who decide they want to, but the lawyer has to go along with it anyway.

Yeah, I don't have any hope for the kid. All the evidence is on his side, but it doesn't matter if the justice system is insanely corrupt. We've fallen far since the Zimmerman trial.

Whatever the verdict is, it will undoubtedly boil down to "We find you guilty, because........ because we just do, ok?"

I think they'll let him win. The forces that be take a hit either way, but I'd think what most benefits them at this juncture is letting justice be done. Unless they are ready for things to escalate. I just don't think they want things to escalate with their opponents having too good a figurehead, narrative, or martyr.

It's a different question what happens after Rittenhouse wins. Will they be able to tolerate him suing for damages, which are frankly pretty clear cut cases, or not? Those will be easier for them to squirm out of with less kickback, likely.
