This is the timeline:
  • Your check will be sent out by your institution when it does, which may be however long after you request it.
  • It is probably 3 business days by USPS from your institutiton to the PO box.
  • The PO box is checked once a week, which means there may be up to 6 days between it arriving and it being sent out.
  • There is another 3 business days by USPS to the depositor lockbox.
  • The depositing institution has another 4-6 business day processing time.
Which means if it is the November 1st on a Saturday and you request a payment, the earliest it will arrive is Wed the 5th. It will be collected and processed by us between the Wed 5th and Tue 11th. It will arrive at the bank between Mon 10th and Wed 12th. It will be processed between Mon 16th and Thu 20th.

If you sent something in mid-October when I made this thread, your check is at the depositing institution now. I am being told those banks which do not withdraw funds at the time the check is created have been withdrawn from now. I have not seen it deposited yet.

Once it has been deposited, I am writing a tool on my local computer to fetch the billpay numbers from the bank API. I can then trigger uploads from my computer on the KF server. This means no sensitive information is passed through.

I know that's very convoluted and time consuming. I was honestly hoping they processed same-day and I am more than a little pissed they take 4-6 days. The good news is that once you're upgraded you won't have to think about it moving forward.

It's possible we might be able to get them to process us faster or go down to same day shipping with USPS, who knows.

certain billpay recipients are known to the billpay system and if possible the bank will prefer to initiate an ACH transfer (electronic) instead of cutting a check.

We are not known the system. The bank will print a physical check and mail it and we will cash it. This is desired.

How come we cant send straight to the depositing institution
I have no way of knowing how they would respond to complaints.

What they offer to me that is desirable is a free, bank-level OCR of extra details such as the billpay number.

If something were to happen I can just cut out the middleman and deposit directly with Old Glory Bank, but they do not offer any OCR. It just means I'd need to get the mail guy to do a lot more manual work. The way it's set up now he can do it at the post office in one go without leaving.

A 20 day delay is not so bad all things considered.
Are there any fees? Crypto has exchange fees, but checks might have no fees. It's also very old school cool.

My first check should have made it to the mail guy a couple days ago. Hope the kinks get ironed out so the money can actually serve its purpose (keeping the site online) in a timely manner.

I appreciate you taking the time to reinvent the wheel just to make this shit work, Null. I hate payment processors so much it's unreal.

Agreed, and thanks, Null, for laying it out clearly.

'Member when we had to "allow 6-8 weeks to arrive," and that was the wait time after your money order even hit order processing?

Don't complain that payment processors have necessitated an 18-20 day process; congratulate yourself on having the fortitude to retvrn to tradition.

I’m still waiting on my Charles Atlas Universal Workout Manual.

No tranny’ll ever kick sand in my face again

I was going to suggest priority mail from the PO BOX to the bank, then I realized you're already getting 3 day service. Not sure shaving off 2 days is really worth it.
Really I think an elegant solution would be to DM null photos of filled out checks so he can print them out and cash them. That would cut out like 14 days.

what are the new stickers?? i cant wait until my pittance finally goes through

that said....i clicked on the billpay thingie in my account, and i finally get what you are all talking about...i was going to start using it for all my monthly bills, so i could just sign up for it and let it do its thing, but if they are mailing out paper checks, that could screw up getting everything paid on time.

i thought it was like an instant thing like cash app..which means if i paid my electric on the 2nd, it would get paid way past the due date, so that isnt good.
that ALSO said, i guess once it gets going, it wont matter on here, because i assume that eventually my payment would go through at the same time every month. (i suck at anything having to do with numbers/math/critical thinking)

If you give it the 2nd it should not send it on the 2nd, but mail it to arrive before the 2nd. This is why you cant start with a date within one week of today.

@Null sorry to bother but I am planning on sending a money order sometime next week.
I realize my username is "lip-glossary.212373" but do I write that on the memo line of the money order or do I put it on a separate piece of paper and mail it with the money order?
I just want to make sure I don't fuck this up.
