So the attacker was trying to kill Jews, it sounds like. Apparently the restaurant is popular among Jewish tourists. My money is on ISIS/another Islamist group, but there's a small chance it's a Neo-Nazi/white nationalist trying to kill Jews in the wake of the Charlottesville incident.
 
My family was out and nearby, but thankfully they've arrived back home and are okay.

They're leaving to a safer country next week but i'm supposed to "stay" bc college and i really don't want to.
 
According to this source, the death toll is up to 13. The van plowed through literally the most popular and trafficked area of Barcelona, so we could be seeing a high death/injury count.

Two armed men are currently holed up in a restaurant and may have taken hostages. They're almost certainly linked to the van driver, although we don't know if one of them is the actual van driver. This is a common ISIS tactic btw, where one member causes mass chaos (such as by driving a vehicle into a crowd) and then other members take advantage of the confusion.
 
Was born there on the US Occupied Naval Rota, so it's cutting a bit close to home for me.
 
I know you shouldn't automatically assume who the group responsible for this attack is but I don't see any point in being tactful or trying not to offend anybody when it's that obvious who is to blame for this.

It's quite clearly the IRA. I get there's a small possibility it could be a Neo Nazi or a Muslim but more than likely it's the Irish at it again.

For real, this is a horrifying incident and all I can hope is that the death toll is as low as possible. Something has to be done to stop this sort of thing from happening every single month. Sadly a lot of people are fond of saying that and then proceeding to do nothing about it and they're the ones who actually have the power to.

I'm not sure what to say or do at this point except for make jokes. Everything has been said already in past incidents and nothing changes
