Both parties agreeing (or not opposing it) makes reasonable extensions nearly automatic. To oppose it requires filing paper in opposition.

It's probably a), using the defendants late appeal as a good excuse for getting one or two more days to make sure they are not leaving anything...

The compromise is probably and agreement not to object to MoRons late filing.
