Children don't play much of a role in Skyrim, I think its the first time kids have appeared in an ES game. Not to mention there is not alignment...

The only real likelihood of children being in a dangerous place in Skyrim is the result of a dragon attack on an unwalled city or a vampire attack...

I don't do magic much in Skyrim so I don't know if there are a lot of AoE spells, but it's pretty easy to accidentally start hitting your allies...
