Turkey bans American cruise of LGBTQ+ passengers from docking

Turkish authorities banned a cruise ship of LGBTQ+ travelers from docking, according to Atlantis Events, a U.S.-based company who specializes in hosting gay cruises and vacations.

The ship − which was scheduled to dock in Kusadasi, Turkey on July 7 and spend the following two days in Istanbul during a Mediterranean tour − was told on July 2 that the port calls "would have to be canceled," Rich Campbell, CEO of Atlantis Events, told USA TODAY July 3.

"Moral standards" and "family values" were cited for the reasoning behind the decision, according to CNN, who was the first to report the news.

In a post shared to X, authorities in Turkey’s Aydin province called out the ship's group as being "known for behaviors that do not align with the structure of our society and our moral values," promising the ship's arrival had been "canceled."

USA TODAY has reached out to Turkey's ministry of tourism for comment.

'The ship looks like any other ship'

Campbell said the ship's nearly 2,000 passengers were excited to have fun, eat and shop in the country − something the company has been doing for years.

"When we pull into port, the ship looks like any other ship. It's not like we're not a gay pride rally, we're not a march, we're not an organization, we're not a political statement in any way," he added. "The cruise was advertised a year ago, it's not new, we've been to Istanbul and Kusadasi 13 times in the last 25 years."

Despite extensive calls with the U.S. Embassy in Turkey, Campbell said they were "not able to get the Turkish authorities to move" on the decision.

"If your business is tourism, you cannot pick and choose who your guests are going to be, because the minute you do that, you instill fear in people who might belong to that group," he added. "It seemed to be like an extremely short-sighted move, but that is what has happened."

The ship, named Scarlet Lady, is owned by Virgin Voyages cruise line − one of many cruises Atlantis charters for trips around the world, Campbell explained.

According to ship tracking data site MarineTraffic, the ship is docked at a Greek island as of June 3. Campbell said the ship will now stop in Cairo, Egypt and Crete instead of Turkey.

Performer Patti LuPone 'shocked' and 'furious'

In a post to Instagram, actress and singer Patti LuPone said she had plans to perform on the cruise and is "shocked" by the news.

"A ship − a magnificent ship − full of gay men. And me. Denied entry to Turkey simply because of who is on board. I am furious, but I am sailing, as the ship will make other ports of call," she said. "I am ready to perform for all the wonderful men on this Atlantis cruise, who deserve so much better than this."

I'm sorry a gay cruise? I didn't know these existed, I'm not very well versed on travel. But guess I'm not surprised. Sounds like it would make Sodom and Gomorrah look holy by comparison.
Just check out the travel category on YouTube, particularly the cruise videos. More than half of those channels are run by gays, some more flamboyant than others.

If the video doesn't start with a man and a woman walking up the gangway side by side, it's a pretty good bet that it's a gay video.

Why would you run gay cruises to places they're persecuted? Seems like you don't care about your customer base.
1. They're not "persecuted" anywhere, not even in the more based places fags want to bomb. They only instance of alleged fag fursecution Wikipedia can cite is a brother and cousins honor-killing their faggot relative after said relative declared himself a faggot to get an exemption from the draft, and got it. (Incidentally he was planning to move to Turkey.) Unfortunately even in Iran, killing a proven faggot is a crime.

2. The why is child rape tourism. It's been traditional for centuries now for westoid whites and honorary whites to go to brown countries and rape brown children. It doesn't matter if the country is "based" or an enemy of the US, because both these factors make it more likely that a country doesn't have functioning law enforcement (after the Second World's defeat in the Cold War) and less likely the US will extradite the pedos to face justice. Turkey is a NATO member, it's a slave state, westoid rapists are safe from Turkish retribution.

Another country bars entry to LGBTQ cruise ship

A Virgin Voyages vessel was turned away by Egypt after Türkiye blocked its planned calls over “moral values”

A cruise ship chartered for an LGBTQ-themed voyage has been denied entry to Egypt after being barred from planned stops in Türkiye earlier this week. Organizers have been forced to change the itinerary for a second time, media outlets have reported, citing the cruise operator.

The Virgin Voyages-operated Scarlet Lady departed on July 5 on a ten-day ‘Athens to Venice’ sailing organized by US-based LGBTQ cruise company Atlantis Events, carrying around 2,000 passengers. Alexandria was added to the itinerary after Turkish authorities blocked scheduled calls at Istanbul and the port city of Kusadasi, where the vessel had been due to dock on July 7.

According to The Guardian and The Washington Post, passengers were informed early on Thursday that the Alexandria stop had also been canceled as organizers searched for an alternative port. The visit had included excursions to Cairo and the Egyptian Museum.

Atlantis Events CEO Rich Campbell said Egyptian authorities withdrew permission to dock at the last minute, calling the move “really unheard of” and “strange and sad.” He added that around 1,200 shore excursions had already been booked through local operators.

The Egyptian authorities had not publicly explained the decision at the time of writing. Türkiye announced its ban before the ship reached the country. In a June 28 statement posted on the official X account of Aydin Province, officials said the Kusadasi call was canceled because the charter group was “known for behaviors that do not align with the structure of our society and our moral values,” adding that the visit had “sparked significant public concern.”

Campbell said Türkiye’s decision marked the first time in Atlantis Events’ 36-year history that one of its chartered cruises had been denied entry by a country. He noted that the company had operated 13 cruises to Türkiye over the past 25 years without incident and that efforts involving the US Embassy failed to reverse the decision.

Broadway performer Patti LuPone, who was scheduled to appear on the cruise, criticized Türkiye’s decision, writing on social media last week that she was “furious” the ship had been denied entry and that its passengers “deserve so much better than this.”

The Scarlet Lady has since been rerouted to Chania on the Greek island of Crete for a Friday port call before continuing to Montenegro on Sunday.
