It was an absolutely chaotic and tragic situation on a busy Saturday in Boston's Mattapan neighborhood.
Now the suspect, 37-year-old Ibraim Matos, of Hyde Park, is appearing in court here in Dorchester on Monday.
Video shows Matos allegedly carjacking a RAV4 from Fernandez Car Wash on Blue Hill Avenue on Satuday. The owner tells us the driver was pulled out and the suspect sped off a short distance, where police say he hit a woman walking on the sidewalk, killing her.
Matos is now charged with murder and carjacking.
Police say he stole another vehicle prior to the deadly crash. He was eventually stopped after crashing into an MBTA bus.
A group of people pulled Matos out of the car and held him until police arrived.
There were many witnesses to the tragedy.
“We didn't know where the car would end up, if he was going to come on this side because we all tried to run on this side away from the car," witness Darline Duverne said. "A man takes a car and then kills a woman. That's really sad."
Matos is set to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
