A Mexican federal official says the Mexican army has killed the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel in a military operation

MEXICO CITY — The Mexican army killed the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, “El Mencho,” in an operation Sunday, a federal official said.
The official, who requested anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly, said it happened during a military operation in the western state of Jalisco.

It followed several hours of roadblocks with burning vehicles in Jalisco and other states. Such tactics are commonly used by the cartels to block military operations.

The U.S. State Department had offered a reward of up to $15 million for information leading to the arrest of El Mencho.
In February, the Trump administration designated the cartel as a foreign terrorist organization.

“El Mencho”
It's well known that the cartels operate freely because President Gloria Sheinbaum's people are in their pocket and refuse to go after them. I wonder if there are opposition elements in the military that let this happen.

Their leader being named "The Mensch" is a little too on the schnozz...

Time was, cartels would flip out and go on a murder spree just to show the Mexican government who was boss after something like this.

Right now, they know that the only reason they haven't been slaughtered by US army rangers is because the Mexican government hasn't said "okay" yet.

whats the point of being a cartel leader when you have to spend your life living from safehouse to safehouse every night until you eventually get killed by the govt or your own guys or arrested and sent to a US prison?

who cares about having 50 billion dollars in your walls when you can't enjoy it?

Well CJNG is apparently telling Guadalajara residents that anyone seen in the streets after 2pm is getting killed

Very recently Mexico authorized the US to send Navy Seals into the country for 'training'

EL PASO, Texas (Border Report) – Lawmakers in Mexico have authorized the entry into their country of 19 members of U.S. Navy SEAL Team 2 for the purpose of training Mexican special forces.

SEAL Team 2 is expected to land in Campeche, Mexico, aboard an Air Force Hercules 130 transport plane on Feb. 15. They are scheduled to remain at the Luis Carpizo naval facility in the state of Campeche through April 16.

Criminal mentality. The thrill of such a lifestyle and being able to commit horrific deeds with impunity until one day you end up sharing similar fates at the hands of your peers or police seems to be attraction enough. Like living a real life GTA.

It definitely kind of sucks for them. But they usually have huge families (Often on the US side of the border) who get to live it up and spend the money while they try and evade the authorities so I guess that is an incentive.

Great example is El Chapo's wife who is living a celebrity lifestyle while he is rotting away in ADX Florence (That said, his sons inherited his structure in the Sinaloa Cartel and are very much involved in the kind of shit their old man was)

we've given them a chance to keep their soverignity and they made use of it.
So what. 30 more will pop up and it won't matter so who gives a shit.
30 more pop but they're not as smart or saavy as the one that are killed. that leads to infighting and disruptions. sucks for the natives but good for us.

Congratulations to either Delta Force or Seal Team 6! Let's see if we can not write any books this time.

Lol and there you have it

Sunk-cost fallacy. Most cartel leaders are career criminals who started out as goons of the previous cartel boss and are now so deep into this world that there’s no turning back. Surrendering themselves to the cops and trying to abandon this "lifestyle" will just result in them or their family members getting killed by the other cartel leaders they're in conflict with

Kill them too then. Just keep killing them until there are none left. Even the Mexican army has the guns and the manpower, just not the will.

Bukele lead the way, Mexico only need follow.

But they do enjoy it. Pablo Escobar lived in luxury for many years, he even had a personal zoo at his house. Most cartel leaders are shielded away from the routine violence of the cartel, often protected by their government. There are many cases like that
