Runs are doable without either of those. I just completed Boneyard with hunter, tinkerer, necromancer and uncollared cat. e. typed completed twice.

This is a bit offputting and it's unfortunate to see a legitimate fail state (no food, no cats, no money) but it's not gotten annoying yet...

Don't bother; the game gives you little choice or opportunity to synergize; you might roll 2 good spells and a third trashy one. The way I do it...
