I've heard good things about Kitty, but no guarantees.

I've used nothing but st since GNOME 3.38 decided they were changing old behavior. That's 5 years now. But there's a thousand of them these days...

Which terminal emulator you have matters much less with tmux but FWIW I use kitty with tmux and the Dark_Pastel color scheme.
