At one time the Space Marine tactical squad box sold more than every xenos release combined. Warhammer 40k is basically 70% space marines by sales.

I believe sales and/or play data got made public a few years ago and Marines of all stripes (loyalist, CSM, sub-factions) outnumber everyone else...
