A punishment should be befitting the crime and perpetrator. If your high school vandalism really was committed because of your high school-level delinquency, the most apt punishment is making you smoke until you get sick.
I don't know, making someone an example always seemed retarded to me. Then again, there needs to be a line drawn for certain things. Being a judge sucks. If you want to make someone's life difficult, make them preside over a final decision.
