Turns out "not giving up" refers to continuing Fishtank as a show, not this current season.

Gonna take a wild guess and say they got an idea for a hot fix to finish off the season, but townships for Season 3 immediately shut them down...

I'm guessing they thought they had an out, turned out they didn't and had to go back to the drawing board. I realize I'm being really charitable...
