You can't microwave metal containers though. Plastic and glass work well at that. I'd say a mix of containers is the best option. Boring sure. But...

Metal cans still need a plastic inner lining to keep the food/drink from leeching some of the metal into what you're trying to eat/drink.

Which further incentivizes a more localized economy that minimizes logistic chains to the absolute bare minimum I fail to see a problem here
