Saints Row 2 sold well enough, but not nearly enough to rival GTA IV. Even so, SR3 and 4 had the benefit of releasing sooner than the next GTA entry.

It was the fault of video game reviewers hyping up Saint's Row because "it isn't grey, and it's quirky". SR3 was shit and SR4 wasn't even a GTA...
