Filter out the crap coming from the fandom and enjoy it on your own merits. That's what I did.

Toby Fox did a Earthbound hack so Undertale draws a lot of inspiration from the Mother series. Just avoid the fandom and you will be fine.

Don't know if bait but if you're capable of individual thought process then play it before you sum it up.
