If you run out spin the filters off and refill them. That will usually prime the system enough to pull fuel from the tanks and get you going...

And? I'd assume the drivers would shut the trucks off before that happened.

It's not hard to prime a diesel engine. I can't speak for modern diesels, nor engines of this size. But for IDI Diesel engines all you need to do...
