That's true. Even though Lucas did reuse a lot of old motifs and ideas, he did try to give us an original story.

His original stories blew chunks, though. At this point, even a reboot of the original would be better. They even brought back Lawrence Kasdan...

I really don't think the fact that the prequels were trying to be more "original" was necessarily a good thing. Maybe if the resulting films were...
