One other common lie is the age of consent in Japan being 13. This is actually only true at the federal level. Every prefecture sets an age of consent, and most of them, like any other civilized country, are 18. I believe the lowest is 16. The 13 age makes it a federal offense, but you would in any event face prosecution for under 16 anywhere in Japan proper.
