The news of boosters is not really a surprise. Back in early 2020 this was expected. In fact one of the greatest barriers to vaccinations for corona virus's was that when they were developed that they 0generally had limited effectiveness, or they only lasted 3-6 months or had serious side effects.
Vaccinations for corona viruses have been around for years - but they never pass the full phase testing because they fail.
My only hope is that the virus takes on new attributes that make it less severe, less lethal and is wide spread enough that the other more dangerous strains that exist and will exist simply do not get a foothold.
I will take the boosters at this point in time - if the strains become less lethal and less severe I probably will still take the boosters in years to come. I do not see boosters not being required for literally decades unless this virus is somehow eradicated and I do not see how that currently, will happen.
It is worth noting how deaths, hospitalizations and infections from the Flu dramatically dropped this last year globally all not from vaccinations or flu shots, but by simply wearing masks. But the same will not happen with COVID simply because it is far more contagious than the flu.
Covid sucks and it's going to suck for a long time. A permanent vaccine is very unlikely, but we can still hope. Am I concerned about autoimmune defects? Certainly. Can I do anything about it? No. It is a gamble.
