Clever foreshadowing. You see, the squid represents future (2015) Dobson. When you think of current Dobson, things that immediately come to mind are "talking animal", "butting into matters that have nothing to do with him", and "Splatoon". The comic is about Dobson arguing with what he'd eventually become.
