If you ask me, western anime fandom always had a festering shitty side to it that only got bigger over the years. I typically bitch about the other end of annoying spergout weeaboos like anime elitists and ANN because while the spergs can tend to have fans who wish they were genetically and spiritually/race souled Japanese, they were the fans who wanted to want to do shit with their enthusiasm and hobby, and though there's plenty of nutcases and lolcows to the "glorious nippon" bleeding self hating morons, there's more of an innocence/tabula rasa of the more sane them growing beyond their diehard fan phase.
Elite and "tasteful" fans however, are douchey snooty faggots who treat their hobby like a guilty pleasure and have always been hipster cred seeking loser assholes who are nothing but egotistical winner's side seeking suck ups and weak willed wussasses off the screen. In all of my life, the "elite" fans have always been consumerist self entitled and spoiled assholes who think their hobbies entitle them to karen out on about how Japan should cater to their tastes, have always been talentless and undriven slacker losers who always seek the easy way out in life, have always been closet racists/ethnocentrists who treat anime as a minstrel show, and in all of my bleeding heart, never touched upon how historically, culturally, and impactful to the human condition anime has been, nor go the extent to understand the "otaku soul" or the virtue of sincerity/makoto that oozes from anime. As I've said before in the ANN thread, this all was a very compatible mindset for the oncoming Grade A USA borne SJW/woke and Atheism and "pop nerd" tripe they'd all come to want to eat down the line. Oh, and to put the cherry on this shit sundae, these dipshits don't even acknowledge how important or significant it is to their nation and its ever continuing history at all.
Everyone's gonna roll their eyes at me about how I'm taking anime too seriously, and that anime "shouldn't be the main gateway to Japanese culture because pop culture = trash culture", but that's always been the problem. Weeaboos get their name not because they like Japan way too hard, they get their moniker from being clueless and ignoramus douches and dumbasses who don't bother to relate to the humanity anime and all of its forms comes to give, let alone in their own lives. All of fandom has now been tainted by this utter ethical and integral malaise of being self pitying and dysphoric depreciating losers, or sociopathic closet amoral and selfish assholes who can't even bother to stand up for themselves unless it's to look better to other dipshits. I've only been to conventions at the peak of the 2010s before the woke clown show came to town, but this is why TL;DR I say to make your own anime shit. The fandom has now been fucked over by its own overt self indulgence and no one doing shit, and now, it's spread into the importing and distributing industry, let alone production.
