Noelle Stevenson is the Eisner-award winning creator of such wonderful comics as Lumberjanesand Nimona, who later served as creator and executive producer for Netflix's celebrated She-rareboot. In March 2020, Stevenson also released a memoir titled The Fire Never Goes Out: A Memoir in Pictures, which combined personal essays and graphic narratives.

Later in 2020—and following an earlier breast reduction surgery—Stevenson decided to have top surgery. And they've written a new, free, 35-page autobiographical comic titled "The Weight of Them," explaining how they reached their decision to get the surgery.

It's a short read, but it displays all of Stevenson's incredible talent for seemingly-simple graphic narratives that relate an overwhelming depth of unique experience and emotion. She grapples with pronouns; finding comfort in femininity through fame; and then how quarantine made them reconsider that relationship, when there was no one else outside of their home to perform a sense of gender for.

It's a moving, powerful story that really communicates the experience of queer identity and gender non-conformity, even if it's not something you've dealt with or thought about before.

You're right, but your scope is too narrow. The issue is greater than Noelle or even the people she ends up influencing-- rather, Noelle herself, along with throngs of other people, are being influenced by the same kind of thought in order to do what she did. On one hand, that's on them; they have to deal with the fallout of irreparably mutilating their own bodies. On the other hand, there's a greater illness that prevents (in this case) women from accepting their femininity-- so much so that their only reprieve is to permanently efface it through mutilation and the wanton disruption of their body chemistry.

Noelle has to deal with the fallout of her self-mutilation at the hands of a destructive fad that's rendered her unable to find even contentment in her own perfectly functional body and doesn't even permit her to have a solid self-identity. Now, Allison has to deal with them. Now, Kaitlyn. Now Ruth. Now Jacqueline. Now Jeanne-- and it just snowballs until you have an entire generation of women that decided that setting themselves up for a host of physical and mental health issues in order to affirm the induced vagary of their self-identity was anything resembling a good idea because we're inadvertently allowing to fester a misogynistic thought bubble that encourages women to undermine their sense of self-identity so they can go and mutilate themselves for relief.
