He's truly an artist without the artist's creative itch. That's why his illustrations come across as lazy- He doesn't even want to draw them.
Dobson needs to re-think his life. Why does he continue to do something that he hates?
In his twisted reasoning, it's glamorous. He loves the attention in a way. It's like a singer who doesn't like to rehearse, record, or put together a show, they just want to party and get paid. This has been said before, but Dobs wants the fame without the effort. Being a famous working artist is glamorous; putting out content that is good, marketable enough to make money, and trying to make a career is the hard part. There is a French artist who blogs about how he works in comic form; his name is Boulet. He makes enough work to travel around the world and do real published work, including a children's book with Zach Weinersmith. His recent comic's tagline was this:
"Being your own boss means you have to work with an idiot."
In other words, Dobs is his own worse boss. He lets himself goof around and not work. He makes no con appearances, makes no (marketable) content, blocks people, only uses Twitter, has no website, and has no soft skills. A lot of employers can't find people who have no soft skills which is be presentable, be timely, courteous. Artists are one of the oldest entrepreneurial professions. The internet has made it easier for people, even in the highly competitive industries. And Dobs has been an example on how to fuck it up.
