The riots will end, I think, but the womb is fertile still from where that came. Academia, especially the Humanities and Social Sciences, are lost to the postmodernists and Neo/Pseudo-Marxists. It can't heal on its own and requires full chemo and radiation therapy to remove the cancer. 50 odd years of the Long March through the Institutions have metastasized into everything, and it has enough influence over public opinion and media that it can kick off riots and insurgencies at will. New riots will come regularly.
The "New Normal", I think it will continue for a year at most until a vaccine is miraculously found and we're all saved and nobody talks about it anymore. Until the next plague comes.
In a sense, the "New Normal" will be continued cycles of crisis after crisis that all cause division in the populace until nobody cares about anything anymore.

Its all about the character of who's doing the protesting. Middle class boomers, with property, with faith, with guns, aren't gonna get into fist fights with other pedestrians. They do exactly what you described, and their loud calls for frugal expenditure in broad daylight isn't gonna invite violence against them.
But BLM/Antifa? They organise most of their events at night-time, so they know there's gonna be opportunistic lootings, shootings, and attacks-- their very presence overwhelms municipal police so its the perfect cover for other criminal activity. Their outlook is all about radical change, revolution, and taking the fight to their enemies-- very few of whom inhabit the same cities they do btw... so where does that leave them? They want a fight. Everybody knows it. But because the alt-right (the real alt-right, which does actually exist) didn't show up they're left abusing the shit out of anybody white with a camera, and anybody well-intentioned enough to drive down the wrong street and then stop their vehicle.
Can we take a moment to salute Gun-toting America? This is 3 solid months of anarchy, for which the criminals will never be held to account, and we haven't seen a single Libertarian or schizo boomer unloading a magazine into a crowd yet. I genuinely thought we'd get that within a week of the Floyd protests, but instead brandashing has been enough to deter madness whilst lichentious prosecutors come down on whoever was defending themselves

Co-existing with people who don't look like me? Fine, no issue at all. Co-existing with people who don't agree with me on fundamental principles; however, is untenable. Looking different is a pretty decent heuristic for that. Having similar interests and being members of the same clubs is a better one, but that takes time to suss out and isn't feasible with most people you meet.
