Trump Derangement Syndrome - Orange man bad. Read the OP! (ᴛʜɪs ᴛʜʀᴇᴀᴅ ɪs ʟɪᴋᴇ ᴋɪᴡɪ ғᴀʀᴍs ʀᴇᴠɪᴇᴡs ɴᴏᴡ) 🗿🗿🗿🗿

Shoving him to the ground for stating his opinion is a massive overreaction.

Do we really want armed agents of the state walking around and committing violence against any citizens who object?
If you see a line of police moving your way, you move out of the way. Simple as that.

A line of police in riot gear moving your way means something went wrong and they have been issued governmental power to deal with whatever is in front of them with violence. You may not like it, but that's the government we've got. If you don't like it, vote for someone who wants less government intervention over our lives.

Trump was supposed to be that but he’s simping hard for militarized police forces right now

Would you say the same thing if the cops were coming to take your guns? Or is resistance to police and government tyranny suddenly noble when it’s something YOU care about?

The guy stumbles back like 10 ft before toppling over. That's not "shoving to the ground" in any reasonable definition.

Maybe they pushed too hard, but you do your cause no favors playing the blurring game.

Also, DO NOT GO NEAR A COP'S WEAPON.

Guess what? That's not his duty. Militarized police is a state, county and city issue, not a federal issue.

Of course not. Are you expecting ideological consistency from someone on the KiwiFarms?

Wait, no. I'm using too many words. I think I'm just supposed to tell you to fuck off, faggot.

Which is ultimately the thing. For all their protestations of this election being So Important, I just don't see Biden stirring the sort of enthusiasm in lefties to actually get them out of the house and to the polls in large numbers. They're already adherents to a sociopolitical philosophy that has "Make someone else do it" as one of its pillars, expecting everyone else to go vote for Biden and then lambasting them when he loses is far easier than actually getting your ass there. Which is probably, besides the potential for mass fraud, the reason the DNC wants vote-by-mail so bad... they know what lazy shits their constituents are and are desperately hoping that if they reduce the effort to marking a checkbox and shoving an envelope in a mailbox it will be enough.

Personally I think they underestimate just how lazy their constituency is.
I agree, and part of what annoys me about the current polls, aside from the obvious possible problem of oversampling democrats and not doing likely voter screenings, there's not much if any information about what turnout these polls are assuming. Any poll that assumes high turnout for Biden is inherently suspect.

If I was going to to resist a police state, I'd probably be wearing my helmet instead of carrying it.

I'd probably also be confronting them from a position of cover.

It's almost like different circumstances require different responses.

I don't think that "knocked ten feet backward" actually sounds all that much better.

Police are armed and trained on the theory that they can use appropriate force in a situation. We don't expect regular citizens to do that. If I'm entitled to defend myself, I'm not going to be asked to tone down my response much. I don't have that kind of training, and I don't have that kind of responsibility.

This doesn't look like appropriate force to me. If we're going to give them badges and authority, there are agreements that come with that, and this kind of thing looks far out of bounds to me.

The guy wasn't knocked ten feet backward either. He was pushed back, and not that hard. The old man was very tall and lanky, the policeman gave him the kind of shove that would be appropriate for a man that size, and he clearly lost balance and tripped backwards. He wasn't shoved to the ground, if he hadn't stumbled he would just regain his balance and stay on his feet.

Everybody is up in arms about that old man because he was old. If it had been a 20- or 30-something guy tripping over his feet and falling backwards from a light shove, everybody would be laughing and calling him a loser. But the point is, he was trying to argue with police that had been ordered to move. He knew they had been ordered to move forward. He heard the officer in charge calling out the orders. If you get in the way, you get pushed. And it's not like he was abandoned there. The officers who pushed him stayed on the line, but EMTs coming up behind were on the guy in less than 20 seconds.

And besides, isn't there footage from before then where a group of other protesters are leery of the old man, thinking he's out to cause trouble?

He's a well known local communist activist, from the bad old Days of Rage days in the 70s. He was there to antagonize the police and start something, and he succeeded.

On the topic of the old man.

Appropriate force was used.

He was ordered to move, instead he came forward. Appropriate force is simply to push them back hard enough to ensure they go back. No extra blows, no weapon use, just push. That is resorted in injury is an unfortunate sideeffect of one thing. There is no such thing as a 'safe' amount of force. Shit happens, sometimes even an appropriate amount of force results in severe harm.

As far as I could tell from the video, the officer did not do anything special beyond what was the appropriate level of force for the situation.

Seriously, it looks impressive (mostly because of the meaty twhack! of his head hitting the pavement) but there's a lot of footage of actual excessive force people should be sperging over instead of this.

Well put. This is (was?) the Democrats only shot at taking this election and already you can see it starting to crumble. The amount of leftist overreach these past two weeks has been unprecedented and seeing as the average Joe is already sick to death of it this only benefits Trump. These people always get greedy and it always bites them in the arse but they never learn. When I see the way the Democrats have been acting all I can see is pure desperation. That says more to me than polls.
I'm over here watching the left trying to cancel JK Rowling and taking over Seattle city hall and laughing.

The best option would have been to push back harder on the regressive left years ago. In the alternate we just sit back and let them destroy each other while the center backs away in horror towards us.

I think the people gasping at the old guy are under the delusion that just because police are trained in how to use force, that means they somehow are able to break the laws of physics and ensure that nobody is too hurt by force. This is naive to an extreme, as there is no such thing as a safe use of force. Only a restrained use of force designed to minimize the risk. But as anyone who has played a game of chance can tell you, just because something has low odds of going to hell doesn't mean it has NO odds of going to hell.

Just in case anyone has some lingering sympathy for this guy, he's bragged for years about how he escaped prosecution.

BLM considered him an agitator. He said he was there "for fun."

I mean I appreciate and largely agree with the sentiment, but this is also optimistic as hell.

If the rumors are true about this guy's activism (I doubt everything nowadays), it is possible the man intended to play the wounded gazelle gambit and act like he was pushed harder than he was - and it went wrong with the resulting trip.

I mean just look up stunt work sometime. This isn't even using force but entirely built around illusion and TRYING not to hurt anyone - and people still get injured.

Yeah, we treat elderly people differently than we treat young people. We're kind of supposed to.
Not in all contexts. For example, disobeying police orders to back up. Elders are granted considerable respect as a society but that respect is not all encompassing and isn't a free pass to do whatever the hell they want.

Can't really do that if you're a policeman in riot gear.

And besides, what would you suggest the officers there do? They had to move forward, they couldn't hold up the entire line because of just one dude. He was clearly not interested in retreating by words alone, and attempting to restrain and then arrest someone is actually riskier than just giving them a shove and telling them to move back. Even more so against an older person, where any firm will likely result in at least a bruise.

The old man was unlucky. That's all that happened, you can even see the cop who did the shove going "aw, crap". And as I said, there are a lot more cases of excessive use of force by the police caught on video they should be using to try to argue the police is awful. This ain't the one they want, even more so since he was tended to very quickly and immediately taken to the hospital.
