Last time I took a run up to the store, I made eye contact with a random black guy. I saw no malice or anger there, yet my stomach instinctively clenched with fear. That has never happened to me before, not once, not even after I got flash punched on the street about 15 years ago. Yeah, this backfired if they were hoping to unite their base instead of turning it against each other. They also had to choose to stoke these fires on the cusp of Pride Month and then champion blacks to the exclusion of everyone else.
