He hasn't bothered responding to anyone who is supportive, yet he takes all this time to engage with obvious trolls. I didn't include any in the screenshots, but the only comments he replies to on his DA are ones that call him out on his bullshit. I think in some messed up way he actually likes getting negative attention.
It feeds into his victim complex.
Oh my fucking god they actually said "You can do better than this"

As in they think you actually had a chance if you weren't so passionless and utterly lazy.

Quite frankly they're misguided as hell, Dobby can't do better than that. He can't do better because he won't. Being incompetent isn't an excuse not to try just look at me.
What annoys me the most about Dobby is he can do better and previously has, he's the only artist I can think of whose managed to get worse over time (That's the only video I could find with his old animations).

It's just kind of depressing that he ended up being how he is when back then it looked like becoming an animator was an achievable goal if he worked hard and wasn't so lazy and conceited (Like other people at his college have done (He worked on Frozen, Wreck it Ralph and a Mickey Mouse short)).

I don't think so bro, dobbles' palletes are so fucking dull and uninteresting and they make me want to puke, unless you mute the colors to a horrifying degree and purposely choose the most clashing colors in the universe I don't think your color theory is as bad as dobson. Like I'm not master of color theory, but it's like he's afraid to try something bold and fun.
Like take a look at Viva Piñata, Skylanders and Yoshi's Island. All of them make great use of colors and are fun to look at, dobson's art is not fun to look at.
It looks like he's trying to emulate newspaper comics with his color choices. Didn't someone compare his comics to bland mass-marketed shit like Garfield and he took it as a compliment? The difference is newspaper comics I assume are limited in color and complexity because of the format and the audience, Dobson could choose any color he wanted and he deliberately chooses the most simultaneously dull and clashing ones he can think of. It's almost impressive, you wouldn't think colors could be dull and clashing at the same time, but he manages it.

I've seen many "older" artists try to emulate newspaper comic styles without realizing it instantly dates their work. Dobson draws more like early 00s DA, but still. Ultimately I think this all comes down to that he doesn't actually enjoy art. Deep down, I think he knows that but is terrified of all the time he wasted doing something he hates. He is so defensive because he doesn't think he can go anywhere else. When all of your art is about how much you hate art, reconsider your career. Surely there are other professions where you can get pity points. Hell, Twitterfamous social activist is one now. Just do that.

Dobby's meltdowns never fail to amuse me. He just glances over what someone said, straw mans them and goes to twitter to cry like a little cunt.

Of course he cut out the "I know you can do better". Can't let people think the person was anything but a filthy troll!

The only problem with that is it seems like he's already trying to be a twitter social activist - he's just failing at that, too. He should really just aim for some kind of career where he doesn't have to interact with people or do anything that requires innovation or effort.

Wasn't he a janitor or something for a while? Dude should probably just stick to that.

I mean I suck at coloring and shading.

If you want some critique/suggestions - you have actually, it appears, got a bit of the same problem as Dobson when it comes to shading with black. It's most noticable on skin because it ends up way more grey than human skin really is. You actually did a better job with this on the second comic, where the gradiant-looking shading on the skin has a bit of a redder tone to it at the edge of the shadow, yeah? If you had some more of that, and less dark black in the gradient there, you'd be on the right track. Although there are situations where you can use it and it'll look fine, for the most part, you can say "just don't shade with pure black ever" and your colors will look more lively and interesting for it. Either use a color that's similar to whatever you're shading - or a color that exists in the background, to make the people/objects blend in with the environment. Your characters and shit are already more visually interesting and unique than Dobson's, not that that's saying a huge amount since Dobble's art is about as visually interesting as mashed potatoes, but if you want to learn and improve you've also got him beat there.

Yup, I watched that same video and the only thing he did use layers for was to have the background on one layer and the foreground on another. At one point he said when he scans the physical drawing, he sets it in black and white only - not even greyscale, no antialiasing, nthing - and then uses the fill tool to put in colors. He claims that resizing the image after it's done smooths out the jagged edges of the lineart - you can see how well THAT works out.

He also uses diluted black to shade absolutely everything. Which is terrible muddy bullshit that no one should do under nearly any circumstances. It's why all of the colors on everything he does look so dull and greyed out in the shadows.
Yeah, that is definitely beginner's coloring. Even the best colorists would tint the shadows. The thing about comics is that they have to tell the story. Color adds to the atmosphere. Tom doesn't do that. Compare something like JL8 to SYAC and you will see a difference on they use color.

I thought he worked at Best Buy? Or does he still? He has to have a day job.

He should have stayed a janitor.
It could have given him ideas for a comic, like a janitor who has to take care of a building that holds some Eldritch Abomination in the 13th bathroom stall in the basement

Gee Dobson, if you want a better life for yourself, why not try improving yourself and taking criticsm? Snapesnogger, the artist that launched a flame war with professional artists and art students for critising her work when she went to their site. So that's even crazier than your antics. You don't solicit criticism the. Get upset. But snapesnogger grew up. Don't know what she is doing now, but she seems prettt decent. Both as an artist and a person. What is stopping you? Depression? If art makes you depressed, why do you keep doing it? If it is just the trolls, why not dedicate yourself and improve? That WILL shut them up (source - fucking SnapeSnogger. When do you figure the last time anybody who isn't a total fucking ween gave her a hard time? Four, five years ago?) this is what confuses me about you. You don't seem to like the place you are in, but you don't seem to do anything about it, either by walking away or by trying to better yourself so you COULD get a job at SU. If it's so hard to pick up a pen, why do it? But I suppose I'm just kicking you while you are down by suggesting you stop doing something that makes you unhappy. Freakin addict logic, man.
