The problem comes in that when I watch Steven Universe I see a show for adults, by adults that is trying to be sold by CN as a show for kids. SU has the problem Freakazoid and Invader Zim did: it's not popular with kids because it seems like the creators really want to make a show for adults. I saw some parody Rick and Morty fanart of the show and can't help but think it would be better if it went for that audience and had that rating.

So it's basically badly marketed, and if it goes under, it will probably be because it was only able to attract a cult audience, and a toxic fandom at that.

That would be too bad, because it's not impossible to pull that kind of thing off. Animaniacs would be a great example of a show with a lot of snarky humor aimed at a teen and young adult audience without being inaccessible to kids.

It's more like they try to interpret what Greg does and who he is as proof that he shouldn't be raising Steven when he's presented as a largely endearing character that you're supposed to see as doing his best. To be fair, the show doesn't exactly make it difficult to see Greg as incompetent and the Gems as superior guardians. But you're not supposed to get "males bad single parents, any given woman better" as a lesson from him. It's just Tumblr wishful thinking. Not only that, but if Greg were shown positively it would make Tumblr mad because it upsets their view that the Gems are better for Steven.

Sorry, I have to humbly disagree - the Crystalfags love to jerk off to SU... They're just more hush-hush about it, until you go on Tumblr and start looking harder than you need to.
 
can i just pop in and say that Greg's voice actor has a wonderful singing voice and needs more singing parts? not only that but I will defend Greg to the death. He isn't incompetant like Tumblr says he is, just... He's leaving most of Steven's guardianship to people who understand his abilities more than he does.

Also, saw a post calling Steven female today. What the hell's up with that?

I didn't check their pronouns or whatever, but let's be honest, they're probably a she.
 
I'll leave it at this much: from what I've seen of SU, Greg is one the best father characters made in a long time. Flawed, believable, respectable, and caring, despite the bad hand life handed him, unfortunately - unlike far too many dumbass or asshole dads you see in cartoons/anime in general.

And these Tumblrfags can't handle that, because - MMMMMAAAAAAAANNNNNNN!

Between you and me, that kinda makes things worse. IMHO - As a man, I can almost.. ALMOST suspect that she is some kind of violent feminist revolutionary, or SJW to you (guys/gals out there...), if you will, just from learning that much...
 
It's cute that they think that they aren't the next bronies. Especially since that's basically what they wanted for the past four years, a fandom based on a cartoon that is completely dominated by them. They absolutely are just bronies 2.0 in every regard, from spergy fans to porn. And the one thing they rail on bronies for, "stealing the show" from the target audience, they actually do.

They wanted to be the next "big thing" fandom like MLP's. They got it, and everything that goes with that. This is the future they chose and they will deal with it.

Shokew has it right. The SU nuts do jack it to SU since really, some of them would find some of the characters arousing. They just try to be more furtive with it and while they can say what they jack to isn't a horse, some of them might jack it to things that would still be looked down upon.

Indeed. Tumblr houses fanbases filled with spergs and nuts. It wouldn't be far-fetched to say that there is at least one Tumblrite drawing suggestive art of one of the gems doing the fusion dance.
 
Should this stay in Lolcow, or do y'all want it moved to the media section of Off-Topic so that you can talk about the show without needing to keep it related to lolcows in the fandom quite as much?
