Holocaust memorial with 'victim ashes' erected in Berlin

German activists who installed the memorial say it contains a soil sample with the human remains of Holocaust victims. The group wants to send a message to Angela Merkel's conservatives: Don't work with the far-right.

An art installation that claims to contain the ashes of Nazi victims appeared outside Germany's parliament on Monday.

The memorial is part of a new campaign launched by art-activist collective Zentrum für Politische Schönheit (Center for Political Beauty) called "Come look for us!"

The group says it spent two years digging up soil and testing rivers near areas where the "Nazis perfected and industrialized mass murder."

"At one of the horrific sites we found ashes and bone char a meter deep. This column contains the sample from this soil that has been preserved for all eternity."

Dubbed the "Resistance Column," the solemn gray cylinder is partly illuminated from the inside with an orange light — giving viewers a chance to look at the soil sample contained inside.

Defending against criticism about desecrating human remains, the group said in a statement: "There were no graves where we sampled the soil."

A message to Merkel's conservatives

Although the activist artists say the memorial is designed to remember Holocaust victims, it's also intended to send a message to German Chancellor Angela Merkel's conservatives about the dangers of working with the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD).

"The only likely path to power for the AfD is through the conservatives," the Center for Political Beauty said.

Merkel's center-right Christian Democrats (CDU) and their Bavarian sister party the Christian Social Union (CSU) have ruled out working with the far-right on a national and state-wide level.

At the local level, however, the success of the AfD has led some CDU politicians to team up with the far-right. Recently, a group of CDU politicians in the eastern state of Thuringia called for talks with "all democratically elected parties."

The Center for Political Beauty said it picked the location for its Holocaust memorial carefully. Located between the Bundestag and the chancellery, the artwork stands where the Kroll Opera House once stood — the site where German members of parliament gave dictator Adolf Hitler virtually unlimited authority in 1933.

Jewish community calls memorial 'problematic'

The Central Council of Jews in Germany said although it welcomes political protests to combat the rise of the far right, the memorial in Berlin raises several concerns.

"From a Jewish perspective, the Center for Political Beauty's latest campaign is problematic because it violates Jewish religious law about not disturbing the dead," council president Josef Schuster told DW in a statement.

He noted that if the human remains in the soil sample are actually Jewish victims of the Holocaust, then Jewish religious leaders need to be consulted on the best way to deal with those remains.

"It would be a welcome gesture if a rabbi were consulted when dismantling the 'Resistance Column' in order to ensure at least a respectful and correct handling of the ashes according to halacha," Schuster added.

Police have only granted permission for the memorial to remain in place until Saturday. The activists have put out a call for collections so they can pour concrete to make the memorial permanent.

Searching for remains

The Center for Political Beauty said it collected over 240 samples from 23 locations across Germany as well as in previously Nazi-occupied areas in Poland and Ukraine.

Lab results found traces of human remains in over 70% of the samples, the group said in a statement.

The samples were taken from areas near Auschwitz, Sobibor, Treblinka and other sites of Nazi German concentration camps where the ashes and remains of victims were spread in nearby fields and rivers.

At Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi death camp, over 1.1 million victims — including some 1 million Jewish prisoners — were killed. The ashes of hundreds of thousands of bodies were disposed of in the lakes and grounds surrounding the camp.

The artists' collective is known for its headline-grabbing protest pieces — particularly for setting up a replica of Berlin's Holocaust memorial outside the house of AfD politician Björn Höcke in 2017.

Earlier that year Höcke dubbed the memorial in Berlin as a "monument of shame" and has called for a reversal of Germany's culture of remembrance surrounding the Holocaust.

A...bold idea, as a protest, however the general reaction to this brilliant act of corpse desecration doesn't seem to be what our wacky heroes anticipated...

A German activist group has apologised for displaying what it claimed to be Holocaust victims' ashes in a memorial near the German parliament in Berlin.

The Centre for Political Beauty (ZPS) opened the anti-Nazi installation on Monday to mobilise the public against modern-day far-right extremism.

Now it says it will cover up the transparent urn containing ashes.

The work was criticised by some Jewish leaders and the International Auschwitz Committee, who found it insensitive.

The Nazis dumped their victims' ashes in fields and rivers close to the death and concentration camps where they died.

The ZPS said the urn contained victims' remains that it had unearthed from 23 sites near former Nazi camps in Germany, Poland and Ukraine.

The group's makeshift memorial also carries the slogan "Remembering means Fighting".

In a statement on its website, ZPS said: "We want to apologise sincerely to those affected, the survivors and their relatives, whose feelings we hurt."

"In particular we want to apologise to the Jewish institutions, associations or individuals who feel that our work disturbed the peace required for the dead, according to the Jewish religion," it said.

Historians say the Nazis killed about one million Jews at the vast Auschwitz-Birkenau camp complex, along with 300,000 others, most of them Poles and Soviet prisoners-of-war.

Chancellor Angela Merkel is to visit Auschwitz - in what was Nazi-occupied Poland - on Friday for the first time. She has previously visited Buchenwald and Dachau - two other notorious Nazi camps.

The Nazis murdered an estimated six million Jews at camps and mass execution sites.

The ZPS statement expressed horror at the Nazi atrocities.

"Our work, our whole political and artistic activity, is driven by outrage at the Nazis' crimes, whose goal was to deny their victims all dignity," the statement said (in German).

The installation stands on a site opposite the Berlin Reichstag where, in March 1933, German MPs voted to give the Nazi dictatorship sweeping powers. At that time they met in the Kroll Opera House, which was demolished in 1951 because of severe war damage.

Josef Schuster, President of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, said that "from a Jewish perspective, the Centre for Political Beauty's latest campaign is problematic because it violates Jewish religious law about not disturbing the dead".

Speaking to Deutsche Welle, he said the group should have consulted a rabbi before taking the soil samples.

Charlotte Knobloch, another Jewish community leader in Germany, said the action "was meant to be provocative but is in fact only tasteless, tactless and irreverent".

In 2017 the ZPS set up an imitation of Berlin's Holocaust Memorial outside the house of far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) politician Björn Höcke. He had earlier criticised the memorial as a "monument of shame" - triggering fears that he was trying to rehabilitate the Nazis.

Thoughts, my fellow Kiwis?

I had a thought about that actually. They say every man dies twice, first when his heart stops beating, and again when his name is spoken for the last time. Therefore it is in the interests of any man concerned with living as long as possible to be as despicable as possible in order to ensure his name keeps being used forever.

Every time we invoke the name Hitler to compare how evil our enemies are, we give him a power boost as he continues his campaign to conquer all of the netherworld.
If that was a movie I would actually pay to see it.

And that might have something to do with the fact that they don't want Sharpton to rabble rouse African-Americans against the Democratic Party. He could dig up a lot of skeletons about the Party.
That might be it actually. That That shyster's entire career can be summed up as "pay me hush money or I'll sic a mob on you". He was doing cancel culture before the SJWs made it cool.

If it stops them from trying to conquer Europe for a third time then why shouldn't they obsess about it?

That's just the thing tho. By intensely focusing on it and trying to force diversity and discredit national pride there unintentionally creating a culture of Nazis

Tasty Tatty said this btw V (my quotes keep fucking up)
If their leaders aren't able to give them any small sense of pride for their achievements but rather keep making them feel guilty over their past, then they are indeed a failed state.

This is exactly why it will spread again. Germany will eventually get sick of this shit and start wondering about things.

How? The previous war had never been called "the first world war" until during the second one, wasn't it?
He is referring to a speech given by Hitler on 30th January 1939 where he said:
Once again I will be a prophet: should the international Jewry of finance (Finanzjudentum) succeed, both within and beyond Europe, in plunging mankind into yet another world war, then the result will not be a Bolshevization of the earth and the victory of Jewry, but the annihilation (Vernichtung) of the Jewish race in Europe.

If you want to be pedantic:

Germany's offer of unconditional support for Austria-Hungary in the weeks leading up to the war is the only reason the Austrians had the stones to make impossible demands of Russian-allied Serbia. If Germany had instead been ambivalent, or attempted to defuse the situation, WWI doesn't happen (or at least it doesn't start in July 1914). They're at least as guilty as everyone else involved.

The only reasonable way to look at WWI is Russia and France, terrified of a united Germany's rise, needed an excuse to start a war before the fledgling nation could fully find its feet. The issue with Ferdinand was just a convenient excuse. You can debate whether they, or Germany itself, are at fault for starting the war (hint: they all are) but Germany is no MORE at fault than Russia or France and thinking so is just clinging to the winners' version of history.

I think it refers to the Treblinka "study" where they dug up an abandoned christian graveyard and pretended that they had found jewish mass graves.

As in, talking about the difference between marked solo graves and unmarked mass graves.
Do you have any more info about this, I've never heard it before.
{I really should do a longer series of posts on who he was and what he actually did because he's one of those utterly brilliant statesmen that the world rarely sees}
Please do.

I'll throw my hat into the ring for this WW1 debate:

It seems to me like Austria-Hungary and Germany were more or less justified in starting the war, but both made mistakes. For example, Austria-Hungary's demands to Serbia were unreasonable and they should have scaled them back. Likewise, Germany's ultimatum to France was absurd.

Serbia had provoked Austria for too long, but you could argue that Austria shouldn't have been squatting on Slav land anyways. Regardless, the Serbians were definitely the aggressors. You cannot sponsor terror attacks on other states and claim innocence when you're attacked. Whether Germany's "blank check" effected anything or not is moot, because they were doing the morally correct thing by backing up their ally. The Russians can get fucked since they were backing the state that was backing the terrorists.

The French are a complicated case, but I feel like Germany was largely justified since while they may have declared war first, everybody knew damn well France would honor the alliance with Russia.

Then, Germany's invasion of Belgium is so absurdly immoral that there's no way to justify it, and thus Britain's entry is justified.

Italy is a slimy bastard who should have either honored their alliance or stayed out of the fight. Backstabbing traitors.

I don't really remember why the Balkan nations or Ottomans got involved, so I'm just going to say Turk man bad, Greek man good, Bulgarian man good. Turks are awful, evil bastards who deserved their empire being dismantled.

Finally, the United States is sort of justified in entering, but there's a real hypocrisy to accepting the British blockade while running the German blockade. You're fucking asking for it if you side with one power like that. So, I can't exactly blame the US for going to war over the submarines, but it's something we inflicted on ourselves.

Lastly, the Germans are also evil bastards too. So, we get the following:

GOOD GUYS
Belgium

GOOD GUYS, BUT THEY'RE JERKS
Austro-Hungarians
British

NEUTRAL
Americans
French
Italians
Serbians

BAD
Germans
Ottomans
Russians

I don't know what the fuck is wrong with Germany. Give some to Poland and some to Belgium. Or maybe Luxembourg because nobody knows where the hell they are. And maybe give that bottom part to Switzerland. Or maybe Trump can buy it and we can build some casinos around the air bases. Germany is just never going to work out.

Add also the Entente Cordiale between France and the UK. If it hadn't happen, I won't said then WWI would be avoided but we could had get a different WWI outcome.

show me a single bit of proof showing that it actually happened, show me some proof that there was a german plan to exterminate all jews and show me proof that it actually happened.
That's anti-semitic. You want to destroy the justification for the Jews to actually treat my Palestinian brothers like they claim the Germans did them.

Do you have any more info about this, I've never heard it before

It was supposedly the first excavation of treblinka mass graves, but if you look at the video they made of it and cross refference it with a map, it's clear that they're in a sparsely forested area, which a nearby graveyard is at; you can also see christian grave markings.

Here's a somewhat annoying video about the subject. I haven't verified all claims (or even just managed to view the entire video), but he accurately calls it at 11:10 - 13:30 in regards to the cemetary.

Cemetary video:

There used to be other non-fashwave channels on youtube who discussed the subject, but all youtube commentary videos on the subject have been removed, so we'll have to make do with this one.

The Replacement is because parts of the elite hate white people, and the rest has a white savior complex.

Here's an alternate theory: maybe the health of your eternally-growing welfare system is being threatened by dropping birthrates amongst natives (who will grow up to pay the increasing bills?), and the powers that be are terrified of what happens when the gibsmedat spigot runs dry and they're left holding the bag. So Der Fuhrer decided to import rapidly reproducing foreigners to become workers within a generation or two and thus prop up the eternally growing, gibs-consuming, voting parasite class... and all the resulting cultural conflicts and violence mean nothing to them because, after the dust settles, the party will be still be there, unlynched, and a fundamentalist Muslim "German's" vote is just as good as any other, inshallah.

rich coming from the US who started 2 wars over a terror attack that didnt even hit the heir to the country...
And both wars were against pretty random countrys while the country behind the terror attack is still a close ally (no matter if you think it was SA or Israel).

It's not that American's don't acknowledge there's been wretched shit done in it's past, it's that the difference is that we don't dwell on it and let it consume our national pride.
Americans care about stuff that wasnt bad, but they never talk about the realy bad stuff they did, like sending german refugees into Soviet death camps...

Here's an alternate theory: maybe the health of your eternally-growing welfare system is being threatened by dropping birthrates amongst natives (who will grow up to pay the increasing bills?)
what eternally-growing welfare system?

and the powers that be are terrified of what happens when the gibsmedat spigot runs dry and they're left holding the bag.
The number of people unwilling to work in the native german population is very low and the welfare system for the elderly is linked to wages and people working. having less people working would mean less welfare for the elderly(but also lower housing costs because of a buyers market from lower demand).

So Der Fuhrer decided to import rapidly reproducing foreigners to become workers within a generation or two and thus prop up the eternally growing, gibs-consuming, voting parasite class
we didnt had niggers or mexicans, there was no parasite class.

and all the resulting cultural conflicts and violence mean nothing to them because, after the dust settles, the party will be still be there, unlynched, and a fundamentalist Muslim "German's" vote is just as good as any other, inshallah.
the dust wouldnt just settle without alot of politician and muslim blood.
you have to be retarded to think that low iq sand nigger could win a civil war.

You come across as being the paranoid, sensitive kind of nationalist, who starts gnashing his teeth the second he thinks somebody is threatening the honor of muh country (whether or not they are). Making demands on Serbia is reasonable. Giving them an ultimatum they have to answer in 24 hours, which compromises their national sovereignty to a great degree, and over a terror attack that can't (at that point) be proven to be caused by them.

So, while I overall agree with the Austrian justification, there is more than enough justification to criticize their conduct as having caused a reckless escalation that directly contributed to the war. Thus, why it's not an immoral move, but it is stupid. If you're still buttmad about it, you can at least think: in hindsight, was it worth it for Austria to have moved like it did?

Also, there was a damn good reason for all three Middle Eastern wars, and I suspect you don't even know the beginnings of any of them. First Persian Gulf was in response to Hussein's war of conquest against Kuwait, which was pretty unprovoked (slant drilling is BS and everybody knows it). Second Persian Gulf was in response to his flagrant violations of the treaty which, despite the constant lying the media made about it, turned out to be as true as McCarthy's accusations. (You can compare with Iran building up a nuclear program while lying that they're in compliance with regulations.) The last one, against Afghanistan, was in direct response to them harboring Al-Qaeda. Of course, you could justify interventions against a million other countries for that reason, namely Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, and I wouldn't disagree that they deserve the sword just as much.
