US President Donald J. Trump Impeachment Megathread - Democrats commit mass political suicide

On September 24th, 2019, Nanci Pelosi did what everyone expected was some exceptional political posturing -- initiating a formal impeachment inquiry against President Donald Trump.

The initial "charge," such as it was, was "betraying his oath of office and the nation's security by seeking to enlist a foreign power to tarnish a rival for his own political gain." This, amusingly, was after it was discovered and widely reported on that the DNC had contacted the very same foreign power to attempt to tarnish Trump.

Specifically, this was all based on a rumor that Trump had asked the Ukraine to investigate how a prosecutor investigating Joe Biden's son for corruption had gotten fired, and withheld foreign aid until they had agreed. (He did ask the leader of the Ukraine to investigate what happened with the prosecutor, but did not hold up any foreign aid nor threaten anything of the like.)

Around this time, Trump did something they could not, and still cannot, understand: He publicly turned over all the documents. The transcript of the phone call they claimed showed him committing the crime of blackmailing the Ukraine into investigating Joe Biden for him was released, showing that Trump did nothing wrong. The only reaction the radical left had was arguing over the definition of "transcript" and spouting off a conspiracy theory about official state documents being edited.

At the same time, old video evidence of Joe Biden publicly bragging about blackmailing the Ukraine into NOT investigating his son came to light. Yes, this is exactly what they're accusing Trump of doing. The left is nothing if not subtle. Right after this, evidence came to light that Pelosi, Kerry, and Romney's kids had similar fake jobs in the Ukraine, getting paid ungodly amounts of money and embezzling US foreign aid to the Ukraine -- all things that Trump's Attorney General has openly discussed investigating.

By releasing the transcripts, the DNC was tripped up. Instead of being able to leak information from their secret investigation until November 2020, they were forced to play their hand publicly.

And they had no hand to play. The impeachment accusations came from second and third hand sources -- watercooler talk from Unelected Deep State Analysts with Trump Derangement Syndrome, outraged that President Trump refused to obey them when they felt they had a better idea as to how to run Foreign Affairs. Other allegations included that supposedly, the telepathic DNC members working in the state department knew what Trump was thinking (despite him literally saying the exact opposite) or could tell that Trump would do something even worse -- maybe something actually illegal -- in the future, and boy howdy, the imaginary Trump in their minds was a right bastard.

(As an aside, the name of the whistleblower, Eric Ciaramella, has been censored across pretty much all social media, a test run of whatever censorship they're going to enact in the next few months to try and swing the election.)

At the same time, the DNC performed significant amounts of partisan political fuckery to do this all publicly, but unofficially -- preventing the GOP from bringing forth witnesses or questioning the DNC's witnesses, or even reading the double plus secret evidence the DNC supposedly had. Those GOP that did get access to the evidence have confirmed it's a 3 pound 5 ounce nothingburger.

The charges have since mutated, with them initially being changed to "bribery" -- as "bribery" focus groups easier and is easier to spew out on Twitter.

On December 18th, 2019, along party lines and with bipartisan opposition, they finally drafted their articles of impeachment -- first for "Abuse of Power" and second for "Obstruction of Congress." Neither are actually crimes nor are they impeachable offenses, even if they were true -- which the DNC has provided no evidence of, explaining that it's the Senate's job to investigate and find the evidence.

Narrator: It is not the Senate's job to investigate and find the evidence.

The "Obstruction of Congress" charge is particularly egregious, as they are claiming that Trump, by reaching out to the courts to act as mediators in his dispute over the rules with Pelosi, was obstructing her. In other words, Pelosi's stance is that the President must obey her, even if she's being a batshit insane drunk. Many legal scholars, including Alan Dershowitz, have pointed out that this is absolute bullshit.

The latest development as of this writing on December 21th, 2019, is that Pelosi is demanding that the GOP recuse itself, allowing the DNC to reshape the Senate in order to make the process "fair" -- by creating a Kangaroo court. The GOP is refusing outright, as the Senate's role during this is very specifically to take the charges and all the evidence gathered from the house -- which is none -- and vote yes or no on impeachment. They need 2/3rd majority to vote yes, and the DNC does not have the votes.

Pelosi is refusing to send over the articles of impeachment until the GOP allows her to stack the Senate against Trump, an act that Dershowitz as well as Noah Feldman, the DNC's own star legal expert witness, has said is unconstitutional and "a problem," as Trump isn't impeached until the articles have been filed. Meanwhile, the DNC has put the House on vacation until the new year, while the Senate is exploring options including forcing the articles over without Pelosi's ok. Trump and the Senate have both went to the SCOTUS to ask them if any of this is constitutional.

tl;dr: Trump may have found where the Swamp was embezzling US Foreign Aid. Many politician's children working fake jobs for huge amounts of money in the Ukraine, blatantly selling influence. This caused the DNC to freak out and try and headshot Trump. They missed. The Democrats appear to have committed political suicide, making Trump a Martyr and only realizing in the aftermath that they didn't actually get rid of him or even weaken him in any way. They also appear to realize they fucked up and are trying to slow walk it back, keeping the "he's impeached!" victory while not actually having to let anyone read the evidence or have a trial on it.

WASHINGTON — Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced on Tuesday that the House would initiate a formal impeachment inquiry against President Trump, charging him with betraying his oath of office and the nation’s security by seeking to enlist a foreign power to tarnish a rival for his own political gain.

Ms. Pelosi’s declaration, after months of reticence by Democrats who had feared the political consequences of impeaching a president many of them long ago concluded was unfit for office, was a stunning turn that set the stage for a history-making and exceedingly bitter confrontation between the Democrat-led House and a defiant president who has thumbed his nose at institutional norms.

“The actions taken to date by the president have seriously violated the Constitution,” Ms. Pelosi said in a brief speech invoking the nation’s founding principles. Mr. Trump, she added, “must be held accountable — no one is above the law.”

She said the president’s conduct revealed his “betrayal of his oath of office, betrayal of our national security and betrayal of the integrity of our elections.”

Ms. Pelosi’s decision to push forward with the most severe action that Congress can take against a sitting president could usher in a remarkable new chapter in American life, touching off a constitutional and political showdown with the potential to cleave an already divided nation, reshape Mr. Trump’s presidency and the country’s politics, and carry heavy risks both for him and for the Democrats who have decided to weigh his removal.

Though the outcome is uncertain, it also raised the possibility that Mr. Trump could become only the fourth president in American history to face impeachment. Presidents Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton were both impeached but later acquitted by the Senate. President Richard M. Nixon resigned in the face of a looming House impeachment vote.

It was the first salvo in an escalating, high-stakes standoff between Ms. Pelosi, now fully engaged in an effort to build the most damning possible case against the president, and Mr. Trump, who angrily denounced Democrats’ impeachment inquiry even as he worked feverishly in private to head off the risk to his presidency.

Mr. Trump, who for months has dared Democrats to impeach him, issued a defiant response on Twitter while in New York for several days of international diplomacy at the United Nations, with a series of fuming posts that culminated with a simple phrase: “PRESIDENTIAL HARASSMENT!” Meanwhile, his re-election campaign and House Republican leaders launched a vociferous defense, accusing Democrats of a partisan rush to judgment.

“Such an important day at the United Nations, so much work and so much success, and the Democrats purposely had to ruin and demean it with more breaking news Witch Hunt garbage,” Mr. Trump wrote. “So bad for our Country! For the past two years, talk of impeachment had centered around the findings of the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, who investigated Russia’s interference in the 2016 elections and Mr. Trump’s attempts to derail that inquiry. On Tuesday, Ms. Pelosi, Democrat of California, told her caucus and then the country that new revelations about Mr. Trump’s dealings with Ukraine, and his administration’s stonewalling of Congress about them, had finally left the House no choice but to proceed toward a rarely used remedy.

“Right now, we have to strike while the iron is hot,” she told House Democrats in a closed-door meeting in the basement of the Capitol. Emerging moments later to address a phalanx of news cameras, Ms. Pelosi, speaking sometimes haltingly as she delivered a speech from a teleprompter, invoked the Constitution and the nation’s founders as she declared, “The times have found us” and outlined a new stage of investigating Mr. Trump.

At issue are allegations that Mr. Trump pressured the president of Ukraine to open a corruption investigation of former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr., a leading contender for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination, and his son. The conversation is said to be part of a whistle-blower complaint that the Trump administration has withheld from Congress. And it occurred just a few days after Mr. Trump had ordered his staff to freeze more than $391 million in aid to Ukraine.

Mr. Trump has confirmed aspects of his conversation with the Ukrainian leader in recent days, but he continues to insist he acted appropriately.

The president said on Tuesday that he would authorize the release of a transcript of the conversation, part of an effort to pre-empt Democrats’ impeachment push. But Democrats, after months of holding back, were unbowed, demanding the full whistle-blower complaint and other documentation about White House dealings with Ukraine, even as they pushed toward an expansive impeachment inquiry that could encompass unrelated charges.

President Trump’s personal lawyer. The prosecutor general of Ukraine. Joe Biden’s son. These are just some of the names mentioned in the whistle-blower’s complaint. What were their roles? We break it down.

Ms. Pelosi told fellow Democrats that Mr. Trump told her in a private call on Tuesday morning that he was not responsible for withholding the whistle-blower complaint from Congress. But late Tuesday, the White House and intelligence officials were working on a deal to allow the whistle-blower to speak to Congress and potentially even share a redacted version of the complaint in the coming days, after the whistle-blower expressed interest in talking to lawmakers.

Although Ms. Pelosi’s announcement was a crucial turning point, it left many unanswered questions about exactly when and how Democrats planned to push forward on impeachment.

Take all this for what you will, I am just linking it all cause I thought somebody might be interested in reading some of it.

Edit : OH FUCK YOU @RodgerDodger

Yes. It's a terrible thing because in the absence of a functional Legislative branch, the Executive has to issue sweeping, unilateral orders to get things done. It was shitty when Obama did it and it is shitty when Trump does it. Rule by executive order is the rule of one and that is antithetical to what America is supposed to stand for.

But I also feel for the aforementioned Presidents because ultimately Congress is forcing their hand. I frame a lot of what we've been seeing over the last few cycles as a war between the Executive and Legislative branches of the US government, not a party struggle. The Legislative branch is intentionally sabotaging the Executive branch in a bid to gain back power that they willingly ceded over years. By seizing up the legislative process they are only proving why they were unworthy of the powers ceded to the Executive in the first place.

You fail to understand that obstinacy is deliberately built in to the American Legislature. It's entire purpose is to crush "good ideas" and only allow "good laws" through. That was the intended purpose of the Senate. To be the wheel that ground down the chaff of bad law. Congress is NOT supposed to get things done. Congress was originally expected to work on a handful of laws annually. If you want to see the prime example of Legislative Failure look to California's State Government. They passed well over 1000 laws this year. Did they get anything done? Did they serve the purpose that people wished them to?

So you’re willing to forgive anything he does because he pisses people you don’t like off? And you don’t care about the negative impacts he has other people because you think it’s funny they get mad about it? Wow, okay. Thanks for being honest, I guess. I just think it’s fucked up to treat the welfare and future of our country as a spectator sport where the goal is to piss people off. Trump’s policies and behavior have hurt a lot of innocent people, that’s why I don’t like him. If you think that’s funny I don’t know what to say to you.

Thanks for the other (serious) answers everyone, you’ve given me something to think about.

As a former lifelong Democrat, maybe I can put things in perspective. I held my nose and voted for Hillary Clinton in 2016 even though I never was a fan of hers. But I felt that Trump was too much of a wild card and an unknown at the time. Sort of a "Better the devil you know" scenario.

Fast forward three years and Trump is not as bad as I thought he was going to be back in 2016. I'm not exactly a fan of his, but it's not as bad as it could have been.

I don't support Trump per se, and quite frankly I think he's a loudmouth braggart. The only reason why I'm voting for him in 2020 is because I believe he's the least of many evils. All the other candidates are either not viable right now (Tulsi) or they're actively worse (Warren, Kamala, Biden) and given how unhinged everything has gotten, I don't want to risk staying home.

The Democratic Party that I supported back in the 2000's, that my parents and grandparents supported my entire life, that party is dying. It's been replaced by a horde of braying jackasses who push identity politics garbage over all else.

These whiny college socialists don't care about the American people and they outright despise the white male portion of the country. These pretentious chuds see The Squad as their ticket in, the "future" of the Democratic Party. Sadly, the neoliberal corporatist types view them as useful idiots and those same corporate big shots are the ones bankrolling the Democratic Party.

The Democrats are pandering to the woke types because they think this loud vocal minority of whiny bearded bugmen and neon-haired SJW punks are the voice of the greater American public (they aren't) and the party is convinced that the outcome of the 2016 Election was a complete fluke.

I'm voting for Trump because I want the party I've supported for most of my life to realize that 2016 wasn't a fluke and that they need to get their heads out of their asses and stop listening to spoiled Millennials with worthless degrees and delusions of postmodern grandeur.

If a guy like Donald Trump winning a second term is enough of a wake-up call for the Democrats, then I don't know what could be.

The short answer is essentially yes. See most die-hard Trump supporters don't actually care about the negative effects his policies have had, and they'll proudly proclaim it before IMMEDIATELY turning around and asking for proof whenever questioned.

Once you provide examples, such as the Muslim ban, the transgender military ban, the continuation of the family separation policy at the border, the attempts at excluding trans people from discrimination protections, the tax cuts that disproportionately benefited the wealthy, the proposal to cut access to food stamps that would effect eligibility for free school lunches, his idiotic tariff war, etc then the goal posts will be inevitably moved to saying:

"Well actually none of that is THAT bad..."

Of course the original argument was to simply provide evidence of harmful things he's done but the goalpost movement to how BAD the things he's done is usually subtle enough. But simply understand that in the end there is really nothing Trump could do to endanger his most fervent supporters. He's a religion essentially. Like God, when he does something they don't understand it was all Part of the Plan, 4D chess, whatever. Doesn't matter that its obvious to anyone with two functioning eyes he's a buffoon.

To the Right, Trump is the purest distillation of their values they've had in decades, and any sacrifice is worth keeping that intact. Its like taking the first hit of a new drug. Its so potent you don't wanna go back to the old stuff. The neocons and boomers in the Republican government apparatus are Old News, stale and bland. They only concede ground to the left. But now here's Trump who doesn't give a fuck. He's addicting. He's like crack for conservatives.

Many right-wingers understand he is essentially the last chance they have before society shifts forward in a way they don't like. That's why they've gone full out, mask-off these past few months, passing abortion bills and rallying together around their Last Great Hope. After Trump conservatism will be officially an endangered species, only able to be sustained through extreme violence. As some have so eloquently put it here he could shit on their lawns and it wouldn't matter because what comes AFTER him scares them to their core.

To refrain from processing this information most Trump supporters have retreated into a sort of reality-distortion field to ignore the fact that their God King is getting impeached. "He didn't do anything wrong, and if he did it wasn't that bad and he actually did it On Purpose". The level of delusion mirrors the delusion of liberals in 2016 that nobody could hurt their Goddess Hillary. It doesn't matter if it doesn't make sense. They believe it because they HAVE to believe it. The alternative is literally to frightening to bear.

As things proceed I look forward to the more die-hard Trumpies here losing their shit. Clown world is actually coming true...but not in the way they wanted I'm afraid.

Nobody gives a shit what some pretentious Anarcho-Communist furry thinks about Trump. If you're not some elaborate trollsona, then I'll at least give you credit for stepping outside whatever hugbox you crawled out of.

And if you are some troll who's only pretending to be a moron, then you should know that the whole Deagle Nation fake lolcow thing only worked once and the guy playing Jace Connors was a lot smarter than you.

IIRC Glen Beck is/was a big "honest conservative" never-Trumper. Him siding with the Republicans here is actually an interesting bellwether.

Note : I've listened to Beck for years, since like CNN days so take my opinion from that POV.

He wasn't in the same vein of "ZOMG NEVER TRUMPER" like the Neo-cons were, He just didn't believe Trump was going to keep his campaign promises and didn't understand that The Tea Party* had been so burned by the GOP that they wanted someone who would fight back against the Establishment in Both Parties.

His biggest complaints about Trump were the people who surrounded him with early on, and The constant Twitter stuff but frankly he is FAR more angry at the GOP establishment and has been for years, and while he doesn't like the term "Cuckservative" he has felt the same way as the people who use the term since before Obama.

His current POV on Trump is "Some Good, Some Bad..it was far better than I had expected but holy fuck Please stop the Tariff shit" and as far as I can tell is on the train of Trump 2020 because he has done..a not god awful job and the other side is insane.

*Now I know alot of folks ree about "THE TEA PARTY ARE CRAZIES!" but the Tea Party Base is the Trump base, the Tea Party was the Rustbelt folks who got completely fucked by the Economic Downturn and Obamacare. The reason we have Trump is because the Establishment GOP used the Tea Party as a whipping boy to prove "How good they really are plz don't call us racist MSNBC see we hate the Tea Party too!"

That is why Romney got less votes than McCain did, the GOP handed him the Nomination and the Mainstream media did its normal thing of "This Republican who we held up as "Moderate" is really "an extremist racist hatemonger!!!!!"" and instead of holding their nose and voting for Romney like the Liberarian/Religious right did for McCain..they stayed the fuck home, and come 2016 they went with the guy who would punch back (Trump) because they were tired of being attacked by everyone.

Mostly because it's not.
Well, that is because nobody will talk about it because the only person even laying this shit out is "ZOMG GLENN BECK HE DIDN"T LIKE TRUMP 100% SO HE IS JUST A SHILL FOR THE DEMOCRATS REEEEE" Shit happens.

IIRC Glen Beck is/was a big "honest conservative" never-Trumper. Him siding with the Republicans here is actually an interesting bellwether.

Beck is a very very weird animal. Approach him with caution as he is the very definition of bipolar or cyclical. Beck on his good days is a supremely competant researcher. Who can find a wealth of fascinating historical data. And present it in a really compelling manner. Beck on his bad days makes Alex Jones look like the sane option. We seem to be on the upward swing of his periodic cycle of self destruction, so he's likely putting out some decent stuff. I give it about a month before he's off his meds chewing the carpets again.

And the sad thing is, when he is on his game he can really produce some good stuff. This is a long video, and wildly off topic so I don't want to embed it here. But it's a show Beck did talking about the largely forgotten Black Patriots of the American Revolution. It's a great example of Beck when his brain isn't schizing out being overly or underly self medicated. https://youtu.be/uCsBqbE-RZE

I am not a raging MAGA Trump addict. But I'll vote his degree of sanity and ideals for this country before I'd spit on the policies being promoted by all the Dem candidates. Crazy times we live in right now.

I voted for Gary Johnson in 2016 but isn't it more fun to root for the ultimate anti-establishment troll god and watch the media and liberal elites lose their shit daily exposing their blatant hatred of America and her underlying principles?

Also, seeing how angry he makes gullible, uninformed Democrats and how worried he makes the pedophilic Hollyweird Communists is just icing on a Hillary Clinton sour grape cake.

Trump is the greatest thing to happen to politics, the news cycle and this timeline since 1776.

When did Glenn Beck become the Architect from the Matrix?

No particular reason to believe the following:

An IRS Whistleblower will come out next week. The claim will be about a political appointee preventing him from properly auditing Trump's taxes.

HRC will announce she is running for President by October 15.

When is the last day you can join in on the primary?
Anyone can declare themselves as a candidate prior to DNC Convention, where they formally nominate a candidate. All you have to do is sign a contract with the DNC.

That said, you would want to declare your candidacy much earlier so you could actually earn delegates prior to the nomination.
