Disaster Walmart to Stop Selling E-Cigarettes Amid Vaping-Related Deaths - But they'll still sell the regular kind of cigarettes.

Corporate giant Walmart announced Friday that it will discontinue all sales of e-cigarettes, also called electronic nicotine delivery systems by the Food and Drug Administration, once its current inventory is sold.

"Given the growing federal, state, and local regulatory complexity, and uncertainty regarding e-cigarettes, we plan to discontinue the sale of electronic nicotine delivery products at all Walmart and Sam’s Club U.S. locations," the company said in a statement. "We will complete our exit after selling through current inventory."

Walmart's announcement comes amid reports of 530 lung injuries in 38 states linked to vaping nicotine or THC, the psychoactive chemical in cannabis. Eight people have died of such injuries, the most recent of which happened in Missouri on Thursday.

While the FDA and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention continue to run tests to single out an ingredient in vaping liquids causing such lung disease, both agencies, as well as state-level health officials, have strongly encouraged people to stop using vaping products immediately.

The outbreak of illnesses has prompted the administration to move to ban flavored e-cigarettes, and big media companies have removed advertisements for vaping products.

"...once its current inventory is sold."

We care, just not enough for it to impact our bottom-line.

I wonder how much the tobacco industry paid them to do this.
Fuck off, Walmart. Stop selling alcohol and then start preaching. Your not helping your business.
It's only a matter of time before online stores finish picking all the superstore chains clean anyway. Might as well make as much as they can.

"If you're gonna have a crippling nicotine addiction on our watch, you're gonna have to have black lung with it!

...and it's gonna have to taste like soot! None of this fruity watermelon crap!"

I hate vaping and vape-fags, but you do have a point here.

While the full effects of vaping still can’t be known, since it’s so new, people are very misinformed about the recent spate of deaths related to vaping. All of those dipshits who developed popcorn lung and that kinda stuff were the same people who would constantly fill their lungs up to capacity, and blow smoke for like 5 minutes straight; they’re the same people that participate in contests to see who can blow the most smoke. Buncha’ fucking idiots.

That said, that’s not the reason they’re doing this. It’s totally big tobacco stuffing money into their coffers.

Oh this. I found a similar article a couple days ago because I need to do a research paper on an industry Walmart is involved in for a business class. I know jack shit about vaping so please excuse my ignorance on the subject.

In short, this is mostly to avoid any possible legal backlash over the uncertainty of vaping regulation that may come down the pipeline. Tobacco regulations are pretty clear as they've been around for awhile, vaping is not clear because it is new so they bitched out because uncertainty is bad.

It is just a typical business move to try to mitigate or avoid uncertainty unless it has some big enough return, which this I suppose didn't based on whatever presume analyst evaluated this decision to be best. I mean Walmart had been slowly backing out of vaping due to the issues that seem to be cropping up around vaping according to these articles I found, such as the one in the OP. First Walmart and Sam's club raised the age requirement to buy vaping products (and normal tobacco products) to 21 and they removed fruit flavored vapes likely because they appeal to minors. Now they're just taking them off entirely because vaping is too new and risky for them.

They're just covering their ass in case regulation comes in. Considering they somewhat recently got in trouble with the US government I can understand why they want to play safe.

With all of these companies refusing to sell it, I guess it's time to make a monopoly off selling E-cigs till the boomers in congress ban it while getting their pockets stuffed from Daddy Big WackyTobacky

Or until someone else dies and their family sues you into the ground. Whichever comes first.

I am now laughing at all the fags that were going "vaping is 100% safe! We will replace cigarettes FOREVER!". Maybe now I won't see faggots spitting out clouds while they are walking among a mass of 20 people at a festival near young children. Even most smokers have common courtesy.

Good, can we outlaw faggotry now? Since vaping and being a massive fucking faggot go hand in hand.

Vaping is gay quitting cold turkey isn't that hard. I just got pissy for 2 weeks and once having someone smoke around me started smelling like shit I knew I was good.

I fucking miss it though.

A fair amount of the vape related deaths involve people attempting to vape marijuana oil. You can't vape oils. That directly results in lipoid pneumonia.
