General Wrestling Discussion

There was no announcement of this on RAW, all the dirt sheets were buzzing about the announcement of NXT coming to USA this September. Maybe this is all just an elaborate way to smoke out some leakers, find out who the stooges talking to AEW are?

a 2 hour show is an hour too long. i think ratings will drop at maybe an hour and 15 into the show

I agree on the length in general. An hour to a hour and a half is the best since it's really not a huge loss watching a weaker show unless you're the type to find reasons to complain. It'll probably have a similar pacing that two hour RAWs used to have.

It'll be worthless shit like everything in lolwwe
Just because it might be shit, doesn't mean they didn't get paid. Over 50 million a year! Not too shabby for developmental!

That's the rub, though, there's no way it gets treated as developmental. Look for the WWE shotcallers to get it "ready for tv."

Besides Vince McMahon and Kevin Dunn getting their filthy mitts all over the product, NXT would also suffer from a two-hour show because it'll overexpose people who clearly aren't ready for a national audience. While it has become something of a superindy, NXT is still a developmental territory at its core.

I recently read an article saying that the only thing changing about NXT is it's length. But like you said, it could overexpose some people on the roster. I'm not gonna hold my breath when it comes to it's content however. To me it just seems like a desperate attempt to boost ratings.

Imagine you're FOX and you're looking at this from the outside, and you're seeing them spend a huge amount of money, because putting TV out is expensive, out of a petty rivalry with a small time promotion, and doing it all on a rival network.

FOX is not going to take Vince's carny BS, this isn't UPN or the CW, FOX is the big time in the television industry. They are going to see themselves as the boss.

If that's the case, do they feel like they are getting snubbed by not having this as content on FS1? Not giving FOX/FSI a crack at NXT really puts the pressure on Smackdown to deliver some big time numbers. If they also had a show doing well on FS1, maybe that would take the sting out of not having Smackdown do as well out of the gate as they had hoped? I keep hearing people say that FOX has no out clause on Smackdown, they have to run it on FOX and cannot send it to FS1. I find that really difficult to believe. It was also said that FOX affiliates were being told that they were going to be able to run NXT and now they won't be able to do that. Upsetting FOX might not be the right thing to do. WWE has been a great part of USA Network for a long time, and maybe that is why they are doing this, but they have no goodwill built with FOX right now. Seems like the wrong call, but we'll see this fall, won't we?

lol whatever it's just some shit to keep the drones from looking at another company on Wednesday
What do you think about MLW working with The Crash in Mexico? Does The Crash have anything good going on? Seems like a lot of their champs are in MLW, how does that work? Also, do you think this is where they will get some of their women's wrestlers from if they do women's wrestling matches?

The Crash has had some good stuff, like when Hardys vs Bucks (the expeDEEEshun of Gold!) was interrupted by hot new free agent Penta El 0M.
If there's a match I'm interested in I might try to catch a cam off youtube but I don't really focus on them to any great degree these days, even less now that they seem to be positioning themselves as wwe's bitch in Mexico.

As far as I know MLW works with whoever will answer the phone. I haven't really caught much of them, seem nice enough this time around. Back in the day I caught Raven vs CM Punk on the og MLW.

To my knowledge, FS1 has an existing relationship with Big East Basketball that precludes WWE from running NXT on that network on Wednesdays. So it's very likely they attempted to make a deal with FS1 and were unable to do so.

Ambrose was out for 9 months in the WWE with MRSA in his elbow, now it comes back and he's losing his biggest-publicity indie date and you think it's kayfabe?

You've worked yourself into a shoot, brother. Dude's elbow is fucked. Hope he gets a full recovery this time.

I'm old school. Grew up in the 60's and 70's, which might have been one of the best times ever for professional wrestling. One-hour matches were common. This was the time of the Funks, Harley Race, Jack Brisco, Pat O'Connor, Gene Kiniski, and a ton of great wrestlers. You didn't see people come to the ring wearing outlandish costumes, makeup, etc. About as far as things went was Ric Flair's gowns.

As time went by, saw much less action and way too much folk theater/storyline/bullshit. Haven't watched any wrestling on TV in at least 20 years. What you have now is a greatly watered-down imitation of what we enjoyed way back when. When I feel like watching wrestling, find a match on YouTube.

Have you tried NJPW or NXT?

NJPW is the biggest Japanese wrestling promotion, and very old-school. Lots of clean matches, not too many outrageous gimmicks, top notch in-ring action, even longer match times pretty frequently. They just finished their G1, a big two-week tournament for a shot at the top title. You can check out some of the matches online, see if they catch your attention. I recommend Kazuchika Okada vs. Kota Ibushi in the 2019 G1. That's sort of a "Bret Hart vs Shawn Michaels" matchup, with Okada, who had maybe the all-time greatest title run in NJPW and is the heavyweight champ and Ibushi, the risk-taking hotshot who holds the midcard belt: https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x7fo60n

NXT is the WWE's "alternative" wrestling, a throwback to an older era where they train people before putting them on national TV. They have occasional longer matches (though very rarely something like an hour) and a big focus on in-ring action over promos and drama, though they do still have silly gimmicks sometimes. If you want to check that out, I recommend Adam Cole (the current champ) vs. Johnny Gargano from a couple PPVs back: https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x7a59g5
