Idk if you've ever been to Ghana but it's not that bad. Decentish economy, general respect for human rights, friendly people. it's got a long way to go but it has a pretty good future so far.

Another oversimplification IMO.
Some people won't help themselves, fine, leave 'em. There are genuinely selfish idiots in this world who are not unwell, could improve themselves but do not.
But....
Some people can't help themselves, even though it sure looks more like they won't.
Mental illness and suicide is considered weakness - that's been pretty clearly displayed here in the popularity of the "no sympathy for suicide" posts. So why would anyone trying to appear/feel cool or macho admit it to themselves, never mind seek help when their mind is malfunctioning? And feeling/looking like a cool or macho guy can extra hugely important to guys with underlying problems.
Mental illness also presents itself in odd ways - someone to you may seem like a thoughtless weird acting asshole who won't help themselves may actually they have some fucked up actual brain shit (a scientific term) going on - gabba, serotonin.....not everyone's brain works perfectly. It's affected by genetics, trauma (trauma is shown to change the structure of the brain), substance abuse.
Won't can look like can't. Young men suffer the worst. Young black men (in the UK, don't know US stats) the absolute worst (troons aren't people and they lie so ignore their 40% shite).
Continuing to call out suicide (and by extension mental health issues) as weakness is only going to drive those suffering from suicidal thoughts and other MH issues further from getting help and what will that mean?
I'm aware I'm on the Farms and this isn't a bleeding hearts club, but I just don't think potentially deadly mental illness should be sneered at, mislabelled and left untreated because it looks so much like assholery a lot of the time.

I was lucky enough to capture a hilarious moment of people freaking out in lieu of the Etika suicide. A furry said he was going to kill himself and everyone in the discord started begging him not to. Essentially just enabling his attention seeking behavior. (I DMed the furry "Kill yourself." and got banned.)
