In his defense, he washed up in a river, and left his belongings nearby. If nobody was looking for it, nobody would have to clean it up. Rather thoughtful of him.

Some people get real cynical about this stuff, but you can tell when someone does care. If you know someone is relatively decent, chances are they do care about things like this. You don't need to know someone to feel sadness. But if you're a fake, a leech, have a history of being not so great; that's when it's obvious to go "nah this person doesn't give a single shit". Sorry if saying this stuff is stupid or gay or anything, those are just my thoughts surrounding situations like this. It's something you can differentiate with.

I'd disagree. In the kind of disorganized frame of mind that is required for pathological suicidality (ie not your Dignitas type) all sorts of other things come into play (especially if manic). A gathering of objects significant to the victim makes sense to me, either to be close to familiarity before they go or to leave a marker of where they went from. To me anyway.
And people in manic states may be manically determined to die, spectacularly....to fling themselves of something fucking huge into blackness. I, like anyone who has passed a certain age, have known people who have attempted suicide. Not close enough to anyone who has succeeded to be able to convey first hand experience shared with me, but a twenty something I know has thrown herself off 2 separate bridges. And lived.
Both times in a manic state (she's bipolar with EUPD - the "attention seeking" full house if you believe in that jazz). The first time was into water and she survived with broken bones (ribs/pelvis from memory) and hideous bruising and was pulled out, admitted "fixed" (re-medicated) and released into the community (went back to school ffs!!)
The second time she specifically sought out a higher bridge that was over railway track. So it would work. She again survived but broke all over her limbs horribly and did some damage to internal organs. She is mostly metal and considered disabled. She is however doing very well. Massively supported in her new University course by both the NHS, her University and her friends and family. But it was fucking close.
I genuinely believe her when she says this was not attention seeking behaviour. Sure - a half hearted OD. Some cutting. Even just pronounce yourself suicidal and present at your Doctor if you live under socialised medicine or have decent coverage. That would satisfy the attention seeking element of these types- admission to psych for a suicide attempt/for your own safety etc
This is a long and roundabout way of saying, I don't think either of your points are enough to suggest that this wasn't a suicide. Nobody flings themselves off a bridge for attention.
Either way, RIP.

Full disclosure: I feel nothing for people that kill themselves. They are selfish cunts. People like Etika especially. He turned it into a meme and rode the attention until his body was room temperature in a shitty polluted river, where poor civil servants and volunteers had been searching for his ass for the better part of a week. He then made them fish his bloated, rotting, disgusting corpse from the water, and forced dozens of people to see an image they won't ever forget.
I've seen too many grieving family members look into my eyes with the pain no person should be forced to experience, asking for answers I simply don't have. Good people that would've done anything in their power to help. People that would've dragged themselves over miles of broken glass to prevent what happened if only they know, if only they were told how bad it really was. I've been subjected to too many self-centered, woe is me cunts that have chucked themselves off shit, or shot themselves, or OD'd, or whatever to give half a fuck about young people that kill themselves.
No, this kid has the right idea. We shouldn't martyr them. We should make fun of them. We should make their memories meaningless and leave their legacy in the dirt. We should instead show the aftershocks of suicide. We should show the broken families, the alcoholism, the drug addiction, the distraught parents and siblings, the community that has been shattered by what is, and always will be, the most selfish act a person can commit.
Maybe if we stop turning people that kill themselves into martyrs whose "sacrifices mean so much" who "shed a light on the pain experienced by X group" people would fucking stop killing themselves.

Seeing some of the people responding about their involvement with that mental breakdown tweet is worrying. He did it before, yes, but actually answering genuinely is a bad idea, no matter what. Someone could go "haha i plan on killing myself what time should i do it" and even if they did the same shit 5 times prior and never went through with it, you shouldn't humor them. Don't ENABLE them. Stop your moral grandstanding. He didn't push him. This was Etika trying to set up (what some people believe to be) his suicide as a meme. Fuck Etika for trying to put that on some poor kid on the internet. Nobody deserves that. Personally I'm glad the kid is taking it in stride and not beating himself up over something that was absolutely not his fault.

Terryberry's suicide was about a million times more tragic due to the abuse she was subjected to, and the response was to post her asshole pics.
